M42 Buyer's Guide / Well found another one...opinions?
« on: July 26, 2011, 07:19:53 PM »
Well the guy in Portland wants 3800.00 on e-bay, but I found this one today.

What do you guys think; only problem is it is much higher price, and it is 11hrs away.
In general what do you think you would offer?
thanks,
jm

Ok, got some good pictures:

Paint is shot and needs body work.....lots of dents on the passenger side.
Is registered in Oregon, clear title, matching panels. Some cig. burns in the driver seat, but rest of interior is nice. Speedometer does not work, nor does the odometer, so the mileage is way over 100k...just by the looks of the car.

Priced at 3500.00???
Is this too high and what is a decent offer?

thanks,
jm

M42 Buyer's Guide / What do you guys think of this 318is
« on: July 24, 2011, 12:35:14 PM »
Hi:  Trying to buy a 318is and wanted your expert opinion on this car....

http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/ctd/2506677008.html

What would the major differences be with this car and the USA car?

I know the paint needs to be done, but I think I could take care of it.

What questions should I ask?
thanks,
jm

General Topics / Idle problem after replacing waterpump
« on: August 11, 2008, 10:57:40 AM »
Ok, my first crazy question for the experts on this forum:)

I am thinking about buying a 318is. The owner replaced the waterpump and has told me he needs to bleed the system.
Is it possible that air in the lines would cause major idle problems????
I was thinking the temp sensor is getting air past it so it is not reading correctly.
I was sent a video clip of the engine 'running' and it will not idle at all. Have to hold the trottle open to keep it running.
What do you think?
jm

Ok, more information, the owner said it was rough before he replaced the pump, but now it seems worse????

Nice clean car. Hoping to buy a 318is soon!

Just wondering what size wheels and tires you are running on the car, and if the wheels are hard to find?
thanks,
jm

Seems I have lots of things to check:).
Thanks for the insight. I have been reading everything on this forum to get up-to-speed on the 318. Most items except the engine seem to be about the same as a 325, but the engine, and all the coolant, vaccum lines will be fun.
When I get the car, I am going to do a major tune-up and then drop the pan, change all fluids and then make a list of what comes next.
thanks again,
jm

Hi: I am in the process of buying a 91 318is. Car seems to be in fair condition, but it has been sitting around for awhile.
Can you give me a list of what you would check, change first etc.
Not talking about oil, coolant:).
I have owned about 12 bmws over the years even an m3 for awhile:). Have little experience with the 318.
Any help would be great,
thanks,
jm
