Sorry, can't help, I'm about 8 hours from New York and my supercharged 318is isn't running at the moment. I am curious to hear what you have discovered though.

I am months late and don't even have the answer...
My search skills are failing me this morning but it is on www.realoem.com. You have to search the early months of the e36 to find the hybrid you want.

Wow, time flies. I apologize that I haven't seen your reply.
If I had found a dash, and if I had gotten to it, I'd have done fiberglass. Hasn't happened though.
Sadly, I'll be selling mine as soon as I can get the AC working properly. Not enough room to keep it.

Have you checked compression? Is the timing chain okay?

Electrical / Re: Optima battery fitment

I've used an Odyssey PC-680. The first one couldn't start the car after a couple of years at sub 30. I terribly abused that battery though, draining it totally dead many times and once reverse connecting until, causeing one of the terminals to glow red. The current one has fared much better but it has only been a year or so. It is quite a bit smaller and lighter than what is supposed to be in there so doesn't fit the factory mounting.

I have a Downing Atlanta on mine. The people that did it used larger injecotrs, rr regulator, and some chip.
It idles well and is okay as far as I can tell at near WOT. It gets 30 MPG on the highway.
It pings/knocks loaded at part throttle though. It also gets around 20MPG in town. I'm sure it could be
tuned better.

Doesn't the M62 have an internal bypass that used engine vacuum to control?

That bolt is on tight. I made my own crankshaft holder by drilling a couple of holes in a long piece of angle iron and using the ground under the car to hold it. On an engine stand I think it might flip the stand if it wasn't bolted to it. I had to use a 4 ft extension on a breaker bar to get mine off.

Speaking of the clamps, the leading edge of mine keeps coming loose. I suspect it is due to there not being a clamp there. I can't find a reference that shows where they are used. Anyone have a pointer to one?
Thanks,

Just a thought on tightening up your steering. There is a large nut on the steering shaft above the pedals that comes loose. It takes a large wrench and quite a bit of force to tighten up. Made a huge difference on my car.

Thanks, I hadn't noticed the plug and this is the first reference to it I've seen to it.

Exterior / right side mirror falls out
« on: August 26, 2014, 12:05:39 PM »
The right side door mirror glass doesn't want to stay attached. So far I've been lucky that when it comes loose it hangs up on the bottom of the mount. Nothing seems to be broken or missing so I assume either I'm missing an important step when I install it or something is worn.

So, is there anything more to installing it than to open the ring, attach to motor, rotate ring?
If it is something that is worn out, is it more likey the mirror or the motor mount?

Thanks,
