Engine + Driveline / Radiator Hose Lower Left

Can anyone tell me the purpose of the smaller lower radiator hose?

does it basically just connect the expansion tank to a high point in the cooling system?

Engine management / Afm > map
« on: June 15, 2009, 06:28:00 PM »
have been playing with a euro spec e30 318is m42.  Have currently got an aem piggyback and MAP sensor and am trying to replicate the original AFM signal.

What i have found is that the AFM signal will vary depending on the engine temperature - which makes replicating it with a map sensor very hard.

Can anyone confirm this is what the stock AFM does? eg: Cold engine at idle ~ 800rpm AFm will read 1.2v .  However when hot - 800rpm, same Load it will read 0.8v

is this what the little blue resistor in the afm does?

Engine management / AEM F/IC Piggyback

from the website they say :

The F/IC can also be used to recalibrate / clamp the MAF sensor, eliminating common problems with non-boosted factory MAFs. The on-board MAP sensor allows for proper fueling in boosted conditions.

so does that mean you can stop stop/level the afm output at a certain point and rely on the map sensors output ? (in +ve boost territory)

also the AEM can retard timing which seems to be more than other piggybacks for the same money.

still interested to hear anyones experiences with them. ?

Anyone here used a AEM F/IC Piggyback on the m42?

looking to see if i can firstly remove the afm and secondly have the flexibility to add boost later on.

anyone have an experience with them?
