Since it doesn't look like I can practically give away the engine tranny combination (presumably due to geographic location), I'm going to solicit interest in parting it. If I can get commitments for a reasonable number of parts, I'll start tearing it apart tonight.

I think the prices are reasonable, but would be willing to negotiate on bundles, as I really hate going to the post office to ship a $20 part. I will attempt to ship every 2 days or so (I'm not Pelican Parts, so 1-2 but not guaranteed).

All prices plus shipping from 33813 (Lakeland, FL). Paypal payment only

Engine had 130k on it, ran strong, no codes, was may daily driver, before M52 swap. All parts labelled as new, have less than 2,000 miles on them, as they would be replacements such I purchased the car in July, 2013.

Newly Replaced:
Engine & Tranny Mounts $40
Reconditioned and Flow Matched Injectors $40
Idler Pulleys x 3, plus belts $40
Water Pump & Thermostat $30

Used:
MAF and good elbow (was sold to me as rebuilt) $50
ICV with new vac hoses $40
Manual Tranny Wiring Harness / No Cuts $50
DME $50
Alternator $50
Power Steering Pump $50
AC Compressor $50
Electric Two Speed Puller (both speeds work) $60
Electric Two Speed Puller Fan (bad low speed) $25
Head (will be heavy to ship) $100
Short Block (won't ship) $100
Coil & Wires $50
Throttle Body $30
Upper & Lower Intake $40
Throttle Body $30
OBDI Sensors (Cam, Crank, Knock, Coolant Temp) $40
- Presume the knocks will be cracked and only useful as a back-up
Exhaust Manifold (Short length of cat pipe still attached) $40
Fuel Rail $20
Radiator & Overflow Bottle $50

Tranny Bits:
5 Speed Getrag Tranny, Clutch, Flywheel, Shifter, Manual Tranny Driveshaft
- Would really prefer not to ship $250

Exhaust:
I still have the Borla Supersprint Exhaust listed previously. $150, no shipping

Willing to go to $500 just to avoid having to part it out, which also seems like a shame.

I pulled the engine over the weekend. The 328 is long gone so I can't toss in the manual pedal set anymore. It will include the shifter, driveshaft, engine and tranny mounts etc.

Looking for someone to come get it out of my garage.

Anyone want to make offers on just the tranny or the engine, $600 for both of them?

I am pulling the M42 out of my 318ti for an M52 swap. This car is my daily driver. Engine runs strong, no known issues.

New parts since I have owned the car, since July:

  • Mobil 1 in engine, Redline in tranny, BMW coolant
    New belts
    New idler pulleys x 3
    New plugs
    New water pump
    New plastic coolant pipe
    New thermostat
New vacuum hoses to / from ICV
New vacuum hoses to fuel injectors
    New flow matched fuel injectors
    New motor / tranny mounts

Things that will be sold with the engine:

  • Long Block
All bolt-on accesseries, AC compressor, alternator, power steering pump
Intake including the sought after M42 intake
    Exhaust manifolds.
    Engine wiring harness
    DME
    Transmission & Clutch
    Engine mounts

I also have a manual tranny 328 (my engine donor) wreck that you could pull the clutch pedal, etc. from if you are trying to do an auto to manual tranny swap at the same time

Will include a few misc. M42 parts, extra ICV, intake boot, MAF, intake gasket, etc.

Have not attempted to dress-up the engine, or make the engine shiny. This is exactly as driven photos.

Asking $600 cash picked up in Lakeland, FL for everything. Lakeland is approximately half way between Orlando and Tampa, FL.

For Sale / Re: M42 Engine - Complete - Preparing for a swap
« on: October 21, 2013, 08:01:57 PM »
Dave - Thanks for informative reply.  Assuming the 328 donor car has a functional tranny (seller says it does), the M42 will be coming with the 5 speed tranny.  I'm hoping to get more than $200 for the lump, but I guess we'll see when I get to pulling it in a few weeks.

For Sale / M42 Engine - Complete - Preparing for a swap
« on: October 20, 2013, 09:37:24 PM »
I'm going to be pulling my M42 from my ' 95 318ti for an upcoming swap, and trying to determine if the engine has much resale value, and what that would be.  The engine has ~130k miles, and the following has been replaced in the last 1k miles (3 months):  water pump, thermostat, plastic coolant pipe, plugs, matched fuel injectors, belts, idle pulleys, vac lines, motor mounts.  Vehicle is daily driven.  It will be complete (engine, alternator, computer, wiring harness, intake, exhaust manifold), etc.  It is from a manual car.   Probably be sold without the AC compressor as I think I can re-use that on my conversion.

Engine is in central Florida, between Orlando and Tampa.  I would probably not ship it.

Anyone willing to help let me know what the resale value would be?  If you have interest in purchasing, I'll obviously be interested in that as well :-)

Thanks!

Glenn

WTB/WTT / WTB: Engine Mount Bracket - Passenger Side
« on: August 14, 2013, 08:49:04 AM »
In other new discoveries today (it seems to be a daily occurrence), my passenger side engine mount bracket is cracked. No telling how many miles the previous owner drove it with the sheared and destroyed engine mount which probably cracked the bracket.

It is part #11811137014. Real OEM has this same part number for both the M42 and M44.

Please include shipping to 33813 in your response.

Thanks!

Engine + Driveline / Correct Motor Mount for M42 (318ti)
« on: August 12, 2013, 10:12:56 AM »
Looked at some more photos. It does look like previous owner used an E30 mount on the passenger side. Not shocking given the quality of some of the other repairs I am now correcting. The good news is that I think my replacements are correct.

Now I need to figure out the correct orientation of the mounts as I don't have a good go-by.

Does anyone recall what holes the mount stud and the locating pin are supposed to be in for each side?

Thanks!

Engine + Driveline / Correct Motor Mount for M42 (318ti)
« on: August 12, 2013, 06:44:55 AM »

Both mounts should be the same according to RealOEM. The BMW PN is 11811141377. So, order 2 of those. Maybe someone jammed in an E30 mount (they are different than the E36 ones).

Thanks. I noticed they were the same part on real OEM as well, so one of my existing ones was definitely not right.   Do you happen to know what the difference is between the two?  I would like to see if my replacement units are correct.  Do the correct M42 units have the bigger gap between the bottom stud and the button, and the bottom stud is offset from center.?

Engine + Driveline / Correct Motor Mount for M42 (318ti)
« on: August 11, 2013, 09:15:49 PM »
When I was checking my engine ground wire tonight (it's good), I noticed my passenger motor mount was split.  Not only separated but a 1/2" thick circle of rubber had actually rotated out of the mount.  Probably not safe to drive it like that, so no problem, as I have already bought a low mileage take-off mounts for "an M42".

Went to reassemble, and noticed an obvious issue.

The ones coming off my car (no idea if they are right or wrong):
Passenger side - Stud (off-set) and bump far apart
Drivers side - Stud (centered) and bump close together

The replacement ones
Identical - Stud (off-set) and bump far apart

I tried to re-install the passenger side, but it appears like the hole for the  stud and the hole for the bump are too close together for the far apart variety of motor mounts.  With the stud off-set, it will also not rotate in enough without hitting the frame rail.  Same issue on the drivers side.

See pictures below.  I need to get a set on order tomorrow morning, so they will be here by the weekend.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Glenn
