Engine + Driveline / Need to change water pump. any tips??

I had to "tap" mine off as the screw/bolt method didn't work for me.

Good luck!

Agreed.  I got mine out by tightening each screw a quarter turn at a time, with a round of tapping in between.  Even so, one of the flanges broke off on mine before the pump finally came free.

Be deliberate and take your time.

Suspension / suspension question

Yeah, that kit will bolt right up to your car.

BUT

If you are planning on driving the car semi-regularly on the street, then I would strongly advise you to go with something else.  For example, lots of people go with  http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=E30SPORT
and have had great results.  hth

That's your sway bar end link.  If your wheel feels like it's about to fall off, you have bigger problems than that, since the sway bar in no way holds the wheel on to the car.

If you haven't cleaned out your ICV recently, now would be a good time to give it a shot.  I had a similar problem, and hitting the ICV with some Throttle Body cleaner took care of it.

hmmm... Voted no.  Too many differences.  Plus, there is already tons of support for e36 m42 folks out there.  JMHO

yeah, don't cheap out on your antifreeze.  $20 for a gallon every other year looks like a good deal when you compare it to the nightmare of trying to get your old w/p out of the block when it's frozen in place...

Electrical / COP Brackets: Your Preferences?

Mark me down for one.  I want to get this done, as I think it's time for new plug wires, and this is going to be about the same price.  What I don't have is any access to the equipment, or knowledge of how to use it, so I'm at your mercy, unfortunatly :(

General Topics / Steering Rack Questions
« on: December 10, 2006, 02:05:04 PM »
Guys,
I'm in the reasearch phase of this one myself, as my rack has developed some looseness that I want to take care of eventually.  The steps that D. Clay put out apply to any e36/z3 rack.  As far as which rack to go with, they are all an improvement over our stock racks, but there are some differences.

The regular e36 rack is ~3.2 turns lock to lock iirc, while the e36 M3 rack is 3 turns ltl.  If you want to go with the M3 rack, a 1995 model is better, because it is a constant ratio model, rather than the variable ratio which was installed beginning in 1996.  The Z3 rack is only 2.8 turns ltl, but it does not travel as far, so you will experience an increase in your turning radius if you go with this route.

hope some of that info helps.

Engine + Driveline / vacuum hoses
« on: December 09, 2006, 06:40:12 AM »
A couple of years ago I had an Impala SS.  One of the "free" mods on that car was to bypass the coolant lines to the TB.  Everyone claimed it was worth ~5 HP.  I'm not so sure I belive that, but I am sure that anything that makes that maze of hoses simpler can only be good.

Also, fwiw, most piston engined aircraft have a carb heat feature, in the form of routing a small portion of exhaust around the carb to prevent icing when desired.  I can tell you from experience that applying carb heat results in a loss in power.  Of course, it can also keep your aircraft from an embarrasing "unplanned forced landing".

Apples to oranges, I know, but the same principle.
