A web cam mounted to the roof. unfortunately the sound was all wind. I just picked up a remote mic. So we will see how that does.

I have shortened my mount so it tucks right against the headrest.  Less wiggle that way too.

Here is a quick sprint video up a canyon. There was a surprising amount of people out there today!

Very cool, I never thought people would like this so much! I'm going to make a daytime video today. It's a little rainy so it should be interesting.

How-To's / In car camera mount!
« on: January 19, 2009, 06:22:38 PM »
I did all of this using stuff from Home Depot and $7.67.

I took a 36in peice of aluminum and cut it down to 24 inches. then i found two 1.5in u-bolts. i got in the car, marked where the holes for the u-bolts need to go and drilled them. the u-bolts were a little too long and i didnt want them to squeak on the headrest posts. I put little rubber dots to fix that.

looking back, i can probably make it shorter and i shouldv'e super glued the rubber dots on.

I made a 7 dollar camera mount. Unfortunately, my Nikon Coolpix 7900 doesnt really support video mode. Also, the road is REALLY bumpy. somewhere around 2:40 the road smooths out. Enjoy! If anyone is interested in how I did it, I can post a how-to.

How-To's / Repairing a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)
« on: January 03, 2009, 11:31:33 PM »
well, spent a few hours getting my TPS cleaned out. holy crap. the upper intake had to come off to get the throttle body off to get to the stupid tps.

once i got it off, broke all the tabs and got it apart, it didnt look that bad. but it seemed to help the hot start problem. i dont have insurance until monday so i was a little afraid to drive it around and get it good and hot. i might take it on some deserted back roads tonight (: shhh.

Engine management / How do i set the base idle?
« on: January 02, 2009, 08:27:47 PM »
tjts1, the car was extremely hot. i made an appointment at the smog place. took it through a canyon, got the engine really hot and stuck it on the rollers. still barely passed. i will worry about it again in 2 years haha.

oh wow! thank you, nuvolarossa, for the chart. i will work on that tomorrow and let you know if it works.

I have changed all the vacuum hoses, including the ICV and im pretty darn sure (ok, ilooked at it and at pictures of others and its correct) its not backwards. i have not cleaned it. i did the tap test and it responded beautifully.

i have not checked the TPS. how do i go about doing that?

also, i am taking the car to get a new cat installed today.

My car wont pass smog for anything. the hydrocarbons are ridiculously high.

tonight, i just changed out what appears to be the original 130k mile o2 sensor. hopefully that will. help. i also replaced all the vacuum hoses. what a difference! i also rebuilt the head, new rod bearings all new seals, oil pan, front/rear main seals. car drives like a dream now. the car did have a blown head gasket when i bought it.

however, the idle still searches. it hovers around 900, which i found to be odd. so i shut the car off, and disconnected the ICV. started it up and it idles at 1500!! i looked at the throttle body and it seems pretty obvious what to do mechanically. but is there a certain procedure i need to follow?

from the dealer? no kidding. i never even though to check there.. as for the fogs, i have been watching ebay like a hawk. they seem to be going for 50-70 bucks. (:

hey preston, i am a mechanic on personal aircraft. we service some commercial planes, but only piston propeller planes. no turboprops or jets ):

i just started there 7 or 8 months ago, but every once in a while, my boss lets me certify that it is safe to fly! spooky huh.
