And another question. Do the "is" cars use the Bilstien HD's? Or the sport shocks.

And is the removal and installation a straight forward ordeal, or do you need special tools, like coil removers, and such?

Just take your freshly washed car out for a nice drive. Any water that gets in there will just evaporate.

I didn't think pressure washers used that much water anyways. Like haledj said, you'd have to really try to get water in there to fill up the ports.

The car is still sitting level. Definately not the spring. I think the car looked like it was dipping because of the crappy parking lot I had pulled into.

You said that it seemed like the wheel was knocked off center?? was it shaking when it happened??

I meant it had the sensation of that. The car felt like it was on a washboard section of a dirt track, only not so severe. A rythmic up and an down motion.

I think I forgot to mention this, but I heard a thump from under the hood. Like a brick dropped or something. But I have so much stuff in the car that it's hard to tell tell the difference between a bad noise, and a tool box moving, or change jingling, or CD cases, or whatever. Maybe I should clean the car out...

I'll take a look under the car. But I am pretty sure it's the shock.

We have speed limiter bumps on the main street outside my house. Whenever I hit one of those babies, the car dives to the passenger side wheel, and then rebounds. So the spring is there, but nothing is controling it.

That sounds like a good idea.

I'd like to see how this would be done aswell.

Hopefully someone can answer this for me.

I am driving home from work today. Nothing serious. A little speeding, like 20 over on the service road. I just wanted to get home.

Coming out of a right hand slow sweeping curve my car starts my whooping motion. Like one of my wheels was mounted off center, but I was driving 10 instead of 100 (kilometers).

I pulled off the road onto a gravel parking lot covered with snow. I got out and checked the car. It was diving towards the front passenger tire...

Now that the car is parked in the back lot it is sitting level again, so the diving thing might have been the parking lot, I don't really know...

I was thinking that the spring gave out, and the car was only being supported by sway bar, but maybe the shock absorber gave out, and the spring is still supporting the car.

Can a shock absorber just give out instantly?? I thought it was a gradual thing...

Oh yeah, I also went out and practised my winter sliding. But almost all turns were right hand, which would put more pressure on the left wheel. So I don't know if that really affected it.

Either way, ideas, questions, answers, all are welcome.

And I am pretty sure the shocks have never been replaced before.

John W, I think you hit the nail on the head there.

I changed the oil, and there was no clumps, or discoloration (besides being used of course, it was darker then new).

It seems like it is just in the dipstick area. Ofcourse if I dropped the oil pan(s), I'm sure I would find more deposits.

I changed oil from the Mobil1 synthetic to a Formula 1 synthetic. It was on sale, and cheaper then the no name brands.

Either way, I think I need a suburban anyways, now I can have both.

Thanks fellas.

I think my block is cracked, but I am not entirely sure on this.

The car has not lost any power at all. But when I pull the dipstick out, there was a yellowy film on it.

I've done head gaskets before, but on chevy small blocks.

The car is not burning oil, or coolant. The exhaust has no funky smells to it.

I am starting to liquidate parts that I've gotten for the car, but I don't want sell good new parts if this is just a simple fix.

I don't know BMW's aswell as Chevy's, and I think coolant in the oil pan is a cracked block. Is there an area on these engines that could fail, and allow the coolant to go places it's not supposed to be??

Thanks man. I bought the Chilton manual, and I didn't expect those numbers to be in there.

I think I have a cracked block aswell... So this car may be replaced soon anyways

Does anyone have the volt and ohm numbers for the AFM?

Oh and by the way, still no sign of that idling problem. My car seems to fix every problem that crops up by itself.

It's like a Herby, without the need to drive itself

Okay question: The AFM is the little unit on top of the air filter right?

Good call, I would also make sure that the hose connecting the ICV to the manifold isn't collapsing. I totally forgot about it, but that is exactly how my car acted when I cleaned up the vacuum hoses. You need some pretty heavy duty hose because it sees the most vacuum.

I don't really have much hose there at all really... I used steel tubing and bent it, and only used hose for the connections.

I took the car out last night to the bar. Every start up was fine. It snowed a quite a bit too. Either way, the car never totally cooled off.

But this morning the car started up, and idled fine. Granted I was inside the house. But I stuck my head outside quite a few times, and nothing sounded strange. No engine sputtering, and no high rpm's.

The day I got home I popped the hood, and wiggled the wires for the ICV, and the one that hooks up to the wire that leads to the little box thinger on top of the Air filter box. Maybe that's it. But I kinda doubt it.

I'll carry a sheet of clean paper in the car so if it comes around again I can stick it in front of the exhaust.

I cannot afford those gauges, and test equipment. And the tank is pretty corroded around the pump. I'm scared of busting that ring and NEEDING a gas tank replacement. Again, no money for that, and it's friggin' cold out.

So any CHEAP ways of diagnosing??

And thanks for the ULTRA fast responces guys.

Engine + Driveline / Friggin' car...
« on: November 19, 2008, 04:47:04 PM »
So! Let's get to it.

I have had my car on the road for 3 weeks. And now it is screwing around with me. It has been driving great. Absolutely fantastic. Quick responsive throttle responce, handles great, stops on a dime. I have been having waay too much fun... up until today at 4:00pm.

I started up my car to warm it up (it got cold this week). And once I heard that sweet exhaust note, I went to the trunk to get my snow bush (started snowing at 3ish). I close the trunk, and notice there is no more exhaust sound. A little befuddled I went to start the car again. It started up fine, but after a few seconds the car started to drop in rpm's, almost die, then shoot up again. It did that three or four times, and by then the car was cleaned off so I climbed in, and took off.

The engine wanted to die when I tried to take off. But when the rpm's are up, the engine runs fine.

I read most of the other thread "Car Running in "Limp Mode" on Start Up", and I don't really think my problem is the same as what he has.

The car shoots out a 1222 on the stomp test. I had a website saved that would tell me what that meant, but my pops replaced that computer, and I don't have it anymore...

I have done many things to this car to get it to idle supremely.
New parts:
ICV
TPS
O2 sensor
COP conversion
Mustang injectors
Cleaned up "the mess under the intake"
Replaced air filter
New fuel lines

I have a new pump, and gas tank in the basement.

What could be screwing up with my car?

Any takers?

I don't think I'd do that to anyone... I mean sure getting cheated on blows, but suck it up.

I hope this wasn't the OP's website.

Hey man. Find anything yet?

I totally scooped up the first car I saw, and I regret it. Falling in love with a car is bad move... I am spending too much money on my car to make it driveable.

But the other thing is, if you buy a car that needs work, you can justify mods, and upgrades.

I still wish I would've shopped around first.
