Electrical / M42 to M20 chassis harness question.
« on: July 19, 2008, 02:02:00 AM »
I am swapping out my M42 out of my 91' 318i to an M20b25. I have the wiring harness to the M20 still connected to the motor, i just disconnected the chassis plug and the computer. I did the same thing to my M42 when i pulled it.

Chassis plugs are the same but the prongs are in different places. I need to know what each prong is for on each harness so i can rearrange the prongs on the M20 harness.

They are labels 1-20. Not all of them are used. The M42 uses more prongs then the M20. My service manual doesn't tell me anything i need to know.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Yes it does,I'm using one for a top mount, you just need to buid an adaptor betuin the manifold and turbo.I tried to put some pictures but I couldn't,maybe I need more posts???

do you have the same setup i described plus the adaptor. why do you need an adaptor. i was going to use one anyways because its a T25 flange turbo.

if you can please send pictures to me at o_alcha3@hotmail.com that would be very appreciated.

Can anyone confirm that this manifold will fit. I plan to cut the last 2 runners closest to the turbo flange off and place the turbo just in front of the motor. I was going to just buy it but i figure i would make sure. i know there is not much m42 turbo knowledge out there but any help is appreciated.

i emailed the sellers for dimensions and didn't get a response.

Omar? One and a half months and 9 posts, and you start to call people out about their post's:confused:

the idea that i have to post more and be popular on the board in order to disagree with someone is not logical.

I made my own with buttweld fittings and tightened up the MAF spring.  By the exact same thing I meant a budget turbo build, not using the ebay special manifold if thats what you thought I meant.

sorry to jack your thread FL318i.

but weirdYo2. how much power do you make. is it your daily. reliable? any negatives?

you might want to look at turbos from the s13 community. i used to have a T25 and later a BB T28 on my SR (stock 2.0 turbo motor). the T25 was good but the T28 was great. I would look for a T28 used. there are plenty around b/c they like to upgrade to GT2xxx

did u ever consider this mani. im not sure if it will fit on the e30 chassis though. no one seems to know on here, e30tech or bimmerforums. i was going to be the first to find out but if you beat me to it let me know.

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / e36 vs e30 m42 turbo diff?
« on: April 20, 2008, 09:17:09 PM »
ya i know of that one. really expensive. i has hoping for something like 524td mani that i have for my m20, or maybe the obx one works and is somewhat decent quality.

i also found this. http://www.kormanfastbmw.com/turbos.htm only talks about e36's. why?

i see this manifold online for an e36 318

is there a reason and if so what is the reason this wouldn't work on an e30 318 (w/ m42 of course)  i really want a reason to not put in my m20b25 but i am not satisfied with the amount of power my m42 makes.

what options are there for turbo manis for the e30. thanks.
