Exterior / Smileys vs angel eyes???
« on: March 25, 2011, 09:01:43 PM »
it depends. If it's one of the nicely done angel eyes, I'd go for it. I would have to see pics of the set to tell you my actual opinion on them. Like I said before, not all angel eyes are the same. Some sets come already pre-assembled with the projector housing and everything. I don't know how hard are those to take apart, but if it's a regular set of US ellipsoids, you can open them, install your angel eyes rings, and if you don't like them, remove them. You can do that too with your smileys, if that's what floats your boat. You can even make your own angel eye rings for cheap. I'm not against smileys, they look really nice. I just think they are not that much better than regular ellipsoids to justify their higher price. Me?, I'd go with US ellips, with angel eyes IF they look really good in YOUR car.

Electrical / after market LED Tail Light problem
« on: March 02, 2011, 10:59:06 PM »
if you post some pics of the inner side maybe I could be more helpful. Can you see the inside of it? I mean the actual circuit with soldering (I'm guessing that's what's inside) or whatever the LEDs are connected to?

Electrical / Power sunroof conversion...
« on: March 01, 2011, 11:30:09 AM »
yeah, that sounds like a fair price. The JY is cheaper (if you´re lucky enough to find the parts in good working order), but you have to do all the taking apart yourself, as opposed to sitting in the porch waiting for the parts to arrive in the mail. What Dave said above still is a wise way of thinking too.

For Sale / M42 complete exhaust - Raleigh NC
« on: February 28, 2011, 09:51:32 PM »
full exhaust from my 318i. Muffler is a no name, universal one, I think is a little bigger in diameter than stock, but not sure. Worked just fine. Rust is minimal, if any. Complete, plug & play. $100 OBO picked up. Trades accepted too. Thanks

Exterior / Smileys vs angel eyes???

it depends. I've seen some angel eyes that look undoubtedly hideous on E30s, but some sets are just nice. On the other hand, you can't go wrong with smileys, nobody doesn't like them. I'm not a big fan of them, though. Their price tag reads "overrated" to me.

Electrical / after market LED Tail Light problem

those are e36 tails. I (and I think most people here) have an E30, so I'm not familiar with the wiring of the e36. But anyway, it looks like you have a short or bad contact within the right side housing. What I would do is take them apart and check for continuity in the circuit that operates the brake section of the LEDs. Also, you mentioned they worked fine FOR A BIT. How much is that "bit"? If you bought those recently, I would contact the eBay seller about their product being defective, BEFORE cutting them open or attempting to repair them yourself. Tail lights is not a product that gets "abuse". They should replace it.

Engine + Driveline / Head Gasket Question
« on: February 21, 2011, 11:34:53 PM »
not a bad idea to replace water pump and thermostat. Timing chain should be in most cases Ok, but don´t take my word for it. What you should look into replacing is most likely not the chain itself but definitely its guides and the tensioner. If the chain is not too expensive replace it too. Probably too obvious to mention are all your gaskets, belts, head bolts and as many seals as you can. Also check your cams for excesive wear.

Engine + Driveline / can I sell a used cat converter?
« on: February 21, 2011, 03:56:11 PM »
I have the complete exhaust out of the M42 318i, all the way back from the manifold to the muffler. Can I sell the whole thing as it is or do I have to remove the Cat. converter first? This is regardless of the money I could make out of it.

WTB/WTT / WTB: MISC m42 Parts
« on: February 21, 2011, 01:02:16 PM »
50takedowns, I have a wiring harness if you´re still interested. It´s in my 4sale thread. I also have the hangers you need, however, I´m not sure if I´ll need them for my next exhaust yet.

For Sale / a few M42 parts for sale

I have literally buckets full of bolts. While I can´t promise you I have the exact ones that belong to that bracket (I can´t remember what they look like) , I´m almost certain I´ll be able to find some that will fit/work.
