Also, if you want to spend a little money ($80 or so), this seems like the easiest and least finicky solution.

Ive got an e21 with an m42 swapped in and Ive run into similar problems.

Hello everyone,
I've put a custom tach (VDO vision series, black face, dont worry in my e21 w/ m42. Does anyone know where I can find a guide to the ECU pin #'s?
