Yeah, it ended my weekend a little bit earlier than I had anticipated. It was rather perfect timing to blow so soon after we talked about yours blowing up.
Time for MORE POWER!
Know anyone with a good S50?

Eugh, I jinxed you :(. Did you tow it home?

s50s are a bit harder to come by. You'll find s52s and m52s with less effort.

Thanks fellas.

M42 chassis with s50.

Here's another video from March this year playing around with a 280whp 2.5L s14

Talk to me about your wheel/tire fitment with the 17s?

Fender rolling required, correct?

This is the final frontier for me in my autoX car. I've been on 15X8s for awhile and would love to switch to 17s for all the usual reasons -- 235s, wider range of competitive tires to try, gearing advantage on longer, faster courses, etc.

Your 17-inch setup is damn near exactly what I envisioned.

+1, I would love to swap out a set of those for My MSystems (staggered) come track days ;)
plus i'm curious how much rolling the rear took cuz my MSystems are 17x9 et22 and i want to run 245/35 on them

Offset will be your best calibration to determine if you want to flare or not obviously as it's directly related to the rubber sizing.

I insist on using low offset wheels for a wider track and thus had to flare my fenders. Feel free to delve further into this topic via PM or in a new thread, I am all ears for input as I see 17x10 and 18x10 wheels making these cars do UNIMAGINABLE THING, but, I'm concerned of the caveat; wheel-bearing wear. I have replaced both front wheel bearings and I run approx minus 3.6deg of Camber which isn't much but this car was pretty much daily driven for a long time with the alignment settings "fixed."

Genesis -
Stock Fenders - 15x7 BBS - 205-50-15 - Falken Azenis :D

Stock Fenders - 16x8 e38 weaves - 225-45-16 BFG KDW - this is what started it the quest for flaring in the name of better grip as I was getting more into track/auto-x

BBS RKs up close - Dunlop Direzza - 235-40-17

Forged Square 17x8 M-Systems up close - Hankook RS2 - 235-40-17

E38 weaves - Hankook RS2 - 245-45-16

The fender roller "swings" freely on the hubs. I had to attach a spacer during the final work for both front and rear. There are no wheel well liners in the front or std brake duct channels.

There are other ways to achieve this end result, it all comes down to preference.

Let me know if I can be of any additional help?

I hope I didn't take this too off topic. I am trying to show the evolution of width/sizing/flaring to answer your questions. Mods, feel free to do what's best.

@e9nine: those are 16" K1s, no? Tire sizes/wheel offsets in sig pic por favor.

Correct @ K1s. 16x8 et43

Sig wheels = BBS RK 003 17x8.5 et15 + 235-40-17 Dunlop Direzza StarSpec (square all across the board).

Engine + Driveline / Temp gauge issue
« on: December 12, 2011, 12:30:43 PM »
When your car is at idle and tap on the gauge cluster, does the needle move? It's a common e30 issue. You can fix by removing the cluster, inspecting to see if the little 8mm or so (someone correct me on the size if I am wrong) nut is threaded on securely. If the issue is elsewhere, swap in a good used temp sensor.

The temp sensor on the pass side of the radiator is for the aux fan.
The temp gauge is fed off a single pole sensor in the head
The ECU temp reading is from another sensor in the head

I have a 1991 318iS motor that bit the dust as it overheated. Approx 2xx,xxx miles but well taken care of. I wouldn't be comfortable selling the head but allassociated components are available.

Currently taking requests for parts/pricing but I'll update the thread later with pics/parts.

Great video/data logging setup btw. I'm currently trying to write an app for my android phone logging gps/accelerometer status and video recording, so i can replay the video straight after a run with stats displayed at the same time.

http://trackmaster.trackaroo.com/welcome

It's not too expensive. I have it and have been messing with it. I am playing around with it along side racerender to get data and video merged. Just need to get the time to devote to them.
Bimmerworld also has this bad boy which I have been keeping a watchful eye on:
