Engine + Driveline / M42 knocking sound help

Hello,

My engine started making a very loud knocking sound.
It's a E36 M42. Hidraulic tensioner is new. i'm guessing bent valve, hydraulic lifter failure or maybe something worse..tell me what you think.

bought the >Septermber 93 set and they are not paper, they are metallic.
Will install tomorrow and probably will use some Black Gasket maker in the process to fill any gap.

Hello,

Taking this post from the grave but i have also a question about the gaskets for the timming cover.
My engine is M42 from a e36 of 1993, but i'm not sure about the month.
There are two types of gaskets for this engine:

• Gasket Set, Lower Front Chain Case Cover 11 14 1 721 802
• Gasket Set, Upper Front Chain Case Cover 11 14 1 721 919

>September 93

• Gasket Set, Lower Front Chain Case Cover 11 14 1 247 633
• Gasket Set, Upper Front Chain Case Cover 11 14 1 247 429

Can i use the newer one? What is the difference between them?
