In the passenger compartment, on the steering column right before the column enters the firewall, is a large brass-colored nut. It comes loose after a gajillion miles and needs to be tightened.

Engine + Driveline / Thermastat change Urgent help needed.

My M42 was running too cold (just above the blue) so decided to change the thermostat for the NCT. After changing it the car now overheats, water comes out ot the thermostat housing, the rad is cold and there does not seem to be any water circulating. Also the fan can be stopped with a newspaper. Only let the car heat to a bit over half on the gauge so as not to damage anything. Help Please NCT on Sunday and have loads of other jobs to do.

About a month ago i hit my sump off the ground. The engine lost 2-3 litres of oil before i realised it was damaged so quickly stopped it. Got the sump welded and put it back on the car. It was sitting idle for about a week. Now i noticed white deposits on the dipstick and filler cap. There is also a bit more smoke than usual. Other than that the car is fine. I never overheated it, if anything its running too cold.The head and gasket were replaced a year ago. Is it possible that condensation got into the engine while it was sitting idle for a week? I live in Ireland and it is fairly damp at this time of year. Whats the most likely cause for this?

Hey, I am new  to this site and it looks great. Anyway to the point. I have recently purchased an e30 318is. It needs a new cat and back box. Am looking for something that is quiet but a deeper tone. Not much louder than stock. Whats the best makes and what should i stay from. I also have a strange starting problem. Most times it starts fine, but sometimes it will stay turning the engine over and won't start. Turn off the key and turn it back on again and it starts fine. Then runs a bit rough after start up but is fine after a little rev. Any suggestions?
