Nice... Thats the best caster I've seen for a five lug using non E30 M3 parts.

M coupe control arms and treehouse racing green bushings.  (If you want to know the part number for the control arms I can put it on here) The GC camber plates have caster adjustment but are set in the middle...if I shift the caster around I lose camber adustment.  I'm still at around 10.5 degrees, its been a while since I have had it on the alignment rack.

Member Profiles / (More Power Here)
« on: March 08, 2008, 10:37:44 AM »
Well, I had a timing chain failure on my m42.  I have decided its time to replace the (more power here) in my sig with...well, some more power.  The pictures below are of horrible quality, so I hope to take more of the stage I am at now, and as I get further along.

Plans:
2.8 motor
OBD 1 swap
3.2 cams - pink top (21lb) injectors
custom software
lightweight flywheel
stock clutch
M3 tranny

Ill keep this updated with pics as I put it back together and into the car.

The engine looks great, I would love to get a closer look at it sometime as I live in chesapeake and work at a shop in va beach.  Did the Mark D chip give it a decent boost for power when you put it in?

Engine management / Icv
« on: October 19, 2007, 10:29:47 PM »
Ive cleaned mine twice with carb cleaner.  However, I've been told many times not to do it because there is a film coating inside of the ICV that will get removed if you clean it with brake clean, or carb cleaner.  I won't use it on customers vehicles for that reason, but I gave it a shot on my own car.

General Topics / Looking For A Quiet Fuel Pump
« on: October 19, 2007, 08:46:33 PM »
Fuel pumps always run when the car is running.  When you first turn the key to the on position it isn't running.  Once it senses the engine turning over it starts the pump and it always runs until the key is turned off.  That is why if your in an accident, you always turn the car off...whether the engine cut off or not.  If the engine cuts off, and you get a fuel leak it will just keep pumping the fuel out.

General Topics / Brakes!!
« on: October 19, 2007, 08:41:49 PM »
I was told be some of the spec E30 guys, they use to use drilled/slotted rotors on their race cars.  They have found that the drilled/slotted rotors didn't help their braking at all.  So they went back to stock for a much cheaper price.  I know they don't look as cool, but the performance for E30 brakes should be the same either way.

General Topics / idle problem possibly afm please help
« on: October 17, 2007, 11:10:59 AM »
I wouldn't think a performance chip would do this, but I've seen stranger.  Are you asking because you just put in a performance  chip before you started having issues?  Try unplugging the throttle position sensor with the car off and start it, see if it is any better.  It could also be a vacuum leak, but you say you replaced the hoses, so you mean the whole bird nest of them under the intake??

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Turbo Pics and questions

none, you just need the coil (the rubber piece that goes onto the coils) and the custom made flat bar that allows the coil packs to be bolted down.

Ya, it does sound a bit like a vacuum leak, although it shouldn't run poorly at 30mph with just a leak (mybe if it was a huge leak, but then it shouldn't idle at all really.  Those symptoms could also be the afm, or a bad TPS that is sending the wrong signal.  Best thing to do would be to pull the code that comes on frequently and see what it says.

The suspension is from a 2000 M coupe.

Ground control camber plates
Ground control track/school setup, 500lb springs in front, 650lb in rear.
Ground control tall rear shock mounts
New front control arms (particular M3 pair of arms)
Tree house racing control arm bushings (solid bushing, green pieces)
E36M tie rods
E36M front spindles/bushings
Mbrakes front and rear
M coupe rear trailing arms
E30 auto 3.73 locking diff (medium case)
M CV axles

The side picture up above is with a tein coil over setup on the car which ended up not working properly with shock height and spring sizes.  The car sits a bit lower with the GC stuff on it.

I unfortunately didnt take any pictures during the swap, Ill see if I can get any pictures in the coming days, shop is kinda full at the moment.

Engine + Driveline / output shaft rebuild? possible
« on: October 16, 2007, 02:27:09 PM »
that is normally how they are rebuilt, just a boot replacement and repacking.  If you see any wear on the surfaces the balls roll on it might need to be replaced.  Most of the time its just new boots/grease.

Engine management / Rough Start
« on: October 16, 2007, 01:26:43 PM »
No cold start valve on the 42s.  Idle control valve is only working when the car is idling, once you give it gas that system turns off.  Could be the Throttle position sensor, possibly the air flow meter.

Engine management / Dinan Chip?
« on: October 16, 2007, 12:33:05 PM »
Dinan stuff is O.K., but not the best most of the time.  The nice thing about Dinan stuff is it won't void your warranty on a new vehicle.  Hence they don't get the power out of the stuff that they could.  I've always heard Marks chips are the best but have not gotten one yet...I will though in a few months :)
