WTB/WTT / WTB: M42 Driveshaft
« on: April 07, 2014, 08:46:53 AM »
I'm looking for a good, preferably low mileage M42 driveshaft.. My front U-joint is going and I want to replace it.. I know some people just do the front, but I'd rather replace it as an entire unit (since they're balanced together)
Let me know what you have,, Thanks!

Here's a video I just uploaded for the community, for those 318is owners who are looking for an inexpensive exhaust.. It sounds a LOT louder in the video than it does in real life, but what can ya do! lol
Anyways, here's the youtube link

http://youtu.be/XsRLKKo1aWM

The muffler is a Flowmaster 42441 40 series "Original",, stock cats, stock res, etc.. mods are listed in the youtube description.. hope this can help someone!

Mods if this is in the wrong section, feel free to relocate :)

Wish I had the funds for this dammit!! It must be your bro that I see at my school all the time,, I drive the silver 318is with the CF hood and charcoal rims,, I've parked next to him a few times,, someone loosened my lugs or something, wheel fell off and fucked the rotor and wheel bearing, so I'm back to driving the audi....... /sigh
Super clean m42 though, and I love the license plate!!

would like a pic of the hole in the timing case plz:D   Pics of odd stuff is fun :D

Will do :) It was friggin scary to see a hole blown through the damn thing from the inside out.. I must have missed putting that bolt through the threaded thinger :( :( :( can't believe it lasted 40k miles lol! Still gonna double check the oil pan for a bolt flyin around in there.. thanks for the info guys!

Sooo about 40k ago I replaced the entire timing chain assy.. Did the water pump, chain, sprockets, pulleys, the whole 9 yards.. When I reinstalled the guide rails, I felt iffy about one thing and one thing only.. this damn hollow threaded thing that just seemed to thread in and sit in there with no other fastening.. I put it back in the same way it came out, but now, about 6 months ago when I parked the car, a hole had appeared in my upper timing chain cover, and oil was spraying out everywhere...
This was the culprit

http://www.flickr.com/photos/50383493@N04/4685303872/

It sits at the top part of the driver side longer chain guide rail.. Did I miss a bolt that was supposed to go through it er?
Mostly I'd like to know if its essential and needs to go back in.. if so, it looks like there's a fillister head bolt that may go through it, that would make sense to fasten it down.. either way I'll need to get a new one, or not put it back in... suggestions? comments?
