I've learned to not really care much about the opinions of BfC'rs. I mean afterall I switched from a 325is to a "lesser" 318i. :-)

I know it's a stretch, but there's a place in Detroit called Body Werks. I made a trip out there once and they had quite a few M42's there. http://www.bodywerks.com/

Oh don't you love fixing other peoples mistakes? My $400 project 318i was chock full of em. For instance they put the transmission support bracket on backwards. Seriously how dumb do you have to be to do that?!?

That plastic pipe that comes out of the front of the block under the intake actually got so brittle that it shattered on my car...

Thanks for the heads up about it not snapping in place, I need to replace mine this week. I was replacing my blower motor and decided in my infinite wisdom to get inside the engine bay for leverage in order to finagle it in. I absentmindedly rested my foot on that piece, and off came one of the hoses with part of the plastic assembly still attached. Ahahahaha

Well the 318i I found and bought on Craigslist had an LSD, so they do at least exist.:)

Well I had mine out because of bad idle. The idle was just terrible, it would jump around from about 600rpm up to 1700rpm and would eventually stall. If I unplugged the electrical connection to the icv it would run smoother, just too fast. I cleaned it with carb cleaner to no avail, it wasn't dirty, just mechanically toast. I even tested it externally with 12v and would only ever open 1/4 of the way.

Though on my m20 a few years back the idle got terrible, took it out, flushed it with carb cleaner and voila, worked great! So sometimes you win some

Dumb question, how much is the ICV door on an m42 supposed to move? On mine it moves maybe a 8th of an inch, leaving 3/4 of the aperture closed. On my M20 though it opens so that the whole aperture is wide open. Is that normal? New to M42's so please bare with me, thanks.

Electrical / Power Windows
« on: October 13, 2007, 03:36:48 PM »
Just picked up a 91 318i for cheap. Neither rear window will go down, not even a peep from the motors, though the rear door switches do light up. I've checked the rear window circuit breaker and that is operating. There isn't a rear window fuse in addition to the front fuse is there? Or am I just out of luck and need 2 rear window regulators?
