This write up is what encouraged me to do this retrofit. Basically I have completed it although there is one thing which I am not sure about. How exactly do you remove the actuator cable from the unit. I have had a good look and I was unable to work out how to swap the e30 cable with the e36 one. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the work you guys have put in, it has helped me immeasurably!

Where the cable attaches there is a clip, push the clip in and the cable will then pull out. With the cable pulled out a little bit there is a rubber band looking thing and a brass clip, you can disconnect the two and then switch the cable. Once you get it apart it will make more sence. I hope that helps.

I just finished my retrofit thanks for the good info! One thing i would like to add is that i used the clutch switch and bracket from an 89i and i didnt have to modify it in any way.

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Why the fight to stick with the 4cyl?
« on: June 11, 2006, 03:22:56 PM »
With horsepower being so cheap these days, Its not uncommon that my car is burned off a light by a soccer mom in her pontiac gtp or random rednecks in in a F-250. And forget comparing our cars to anything in the sports car market, even base model hondas are putting out more power. While its not all about straight line acceleration, it does frustrate me so for that reason im going the turbo m50 route. But i wont handle as well, my weight balance will be off, blah blah blah, i have had my fun with the m42, its gotta go!

Engine + Driveline / M3 lsd, what do i need
« on: June 11, 2006, 01:24:56 AM »
I already installed a m3 4.10, fit with no modifications or parts needed. I did have problems lining up the bolt holes, but they match up after a fight.

Just changed the lower pan gasket today and found two bolts. this seems like its worth checking out for you guys that havent

...and when i dropped the pan and drained the remaining oil, there were two bolts inside looking at me :eek: Turns out they were upper pan bolts that somehow backed out and were rattling around the screen for the oil pickup. I locktite'd them back on there and snugged up the rest in the pan. Bonus result: it fixed the upper pan gasket leak i thought i was going to have to repair!:D

It all comes down to the desires of the driver and how deep their pockets are.

If you are into competitive racing, depending on your class rules, it can hurt you (don't ask how I know). If it's just your fun car that you want to run unclassed and want a factory set up with better braking, it's worth it.

Don't forget, you have to pay to play :D[/QUOTE}

yes.

btw, i just did mine so i could run e28 steelies:D
