WTB/WTT / WTB- 4.45 crown wheel & pinion
« on: December 30, 2012, 01:30:59 AM »
As title, for a 188 medium case diff. I'm from the UK and am struggling to find one here, so looking anywhere now and getting it shipped over to me.

I would take two sets.

Thanks, Martin.

« on: July 23, 2009, 01:59:25 AM »
Sorry, should of said I live in the Uk. So preferably companys that have a branch in the UK.
My old cams will be available if anyone is interested, pm me with an offer. I'll check this but I think they're 256 degree with 10.5mm of lift.

I have a pair of 256 degree cams in my engine at the moment, but am looking at getting something abit meatier. Anyone got any recomendations? I'm looking at around 278 degree and want to stay with the hydraulic lifters.
Cheers, Martin. P.s, I don't mind regrinds.

Engine + Driveline / What is the best factory inlet manifold?

i don't think there is anyone on here that has tried the different ones, you ought to go to the junk yard and pick up one from an e30 and e36 and experiment, then report back with your findings

Sounds like a good idea. I'll post up here what I find.

get the manifold extrude honed, port match the upper to the lower and the lower to the head, cut your valve guides, polish the ports, knife edge and polish the tb, put a big set of cams in it and call it a day

Yes, this is what I am planning, I am just trying to find out which manifold is best before I go to all that trouble.
I already have a 1960cc bottom end with 12:1 compression, running DTA, pushing out 172 BHP, with a set of mild road cams. I'm now building the top end to suit and have already ported the head and had the valves three angled.
The rally regs I run under say I can only use standard throttle body/plenum chamber. So that rules out ITB's. But what is the best inlet manifold made for the m42/m44?!

the stock one, thats which one.

Which one? Stock e30? What makes you say that? Have you tried any others and not seen an improvement?
Thanks for your reply's.

the intake and exhaust manifolds flow fine, the big airflow limitation limitation on these engines are the cams, get you a set of Cat or Schick cams, and if you want to save some money, Delta does regrinds for $85 a cam i think

Yes, I agree with everything you say. I have a set of regrinds in and its made a load of difference.
This is 'by the way' though, there must be someone out there who has tried more than one inlet manifold and has an opinion on which one flows best!!

Howd this get three stars?!? I have noticed with the various M42 intake manifolds that they are all designed the way they are to fit around/work with the way the rest of the engine is layed out.

But do you think they all flow the same? I doubt it! So which one is the best? They may have been shaped originally to suit that models engine bay, but that doesn't mean they can't be retro fitted between the models.

There have been various inlet manifolds come out the factory on the m42 and m44. Which do you all think is the better flowing?
Also what size throttle body is best for a highly tuned m42?
Interesting to see everyones views on this!
Cheers, Martin.

Electrical / tps pin out
« on: April 15, 2008, 02:25:07 AM »
Ok, I think I've just worked this out-
I new pin no3 was ground, so from the diagram above, the only wire going to nothing other than the ecu is no2(making it the only one that can be the signal), therefore only leaving one wire for the 5v- no1.
ie-
No1- 5v
No2- signal
No3- Ground
Correct me if i'm, wrong.

Ok, thanks. That helps if I was using the motronic system, but i'm using an aftermarket system. So I need to know which is the ground, 5v and wiper.

Engine management / Anyone got a base map?
« on: April 13, 2008, 05:11:40 AM »
I'm nearly done, installing my standalone DTA ecu and wondered if anyone could help me out with a base map?. It would save me a load of time!
Thanks, Martin.

Just found these-

Seems fairly cheap, but they are 0.8mm too thick.

Engine + Driveline / putting an M42 in place of an M20
« on: April 04, 2008, 01:20:20 AM »
I have done this. The best way, is to use the gearbox from an e36. These box's had a 1:1 fifth, therefore you won't need to mess with the diff, as most m20 cars had quite high diffs. The m42 bolts straight up to it and sits on all the original mounts. Theres also no problem with the prop, although you need the front half from an e30 318is.
I had a load of myther with the 20pin plug when I fitted mine. For some reason the ABS pin, no 20 IIRC was neg on the m20 and live on the m42. I melted two looms before I worked out what was going on!!
