Vendors / GB / Re: Group Buy Feeler - Stromung catback for 318i & 318is
« on: August 23, 2014, 03:41:14 PM »
Looks like there is enough for the group buy over on R3V.  http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=332054
If you want to get in on this I suggest you act now.  I regret not doing this on the last group buy and now they are $40 more.

There is a group buy going for the m44 cop kit over on 318ti.org.  I would like to get several more people to join in so Rob will make 10 more harnesses for the m44.  PM me if any of you are interested.

The m44 case requires CPS mounting modification.  You want a timing case from 1995 318i,is,ti.

WTB/WTT / WTB: M42 head, valve cover, other parts

From what I'm reading the head is the same minus the valves and cams. What's the condition? Mileage? Ever been over heated or worked on etc? Send pics please. Also, since its for an e30 I just need the head as the vc and intake are different. Also, price shipped to 23504?

Valve cover is different between the e36 m42 and the e30 m42.  Breather hose is in a different location.

I would guess with that kind of damage to your oil case your crankshaft is toast too.

Engine + Driveline / Timing cover and head not lining up?
« on: October 02, 2012, 08:06:46 AM »
This is the cause for a lot of oil leakage on m42's from the front profile gasket.  In the Bentley it tells you to put two screwdrivers into the camshafts and pry down and then tighten the bolts.  Notice the bolts for the upper timing cover are not completely threaded and the covers holes have a slight oval to allow for this.

Doesn't really matter.  Put it back on to where you can get the wrenches on it easily.
Glad the plug wires worked out for you.

Needs to be from a 92' to 94' 318.  Actuator cable 65-71-8-357-087 $28.28.  Do yourself a favor and replace the accelerator cable at the same time 35-41-1-158-724 $25.95. Throttle body grommets come with the cables and prices were from the dealer with the BMW CCA discount on 10/7/11.

Electrical / Cannot Unlock Doors

Do yourself a favor and unplug that micro switch when you rebuild your lock.  Mine was malfunctioning and locking itself on a whim.  One time locking my keys in the car.

WTB/WTT / WTB: Cruise control parts

Nice comprehensive list Dave.  I just want to add that the CC harness and stalk need to match.  Earlier versions had four functions and later versions had five functions making the connection under the steering wheel different.  I believe 1986 was the transition year.  One other thing is the actuator cable for the throttle body needs to come from a 93' or 94' 318 e36.

How-To's / Timing System Project: Cam Timing ???
« on: January 27, 2012, 12:10:38 PM »
Yes that is the way it is designed.  To keep it perfect leave the cam lock and the flywheel lock in place and leave the cam bolts a little loose.  Install the tensioner and then tighten the cam bolts.
