Suspension / Steering Rack Differences

I need to replace my steering rack..went to rebuild one, and upon installation and filling with fluid..it leaked like a siv! I think I installed a seal in reverse..

Looking at rebuilt ones now..finding non-airbag ones a lot easier and cheaper than the airbag steering rack.

My question is ...what's the difference? My car is a 91 318is, airbag model..I'm deleting the airbag..and I don't know how the rack does anything for the airbag anyhow...

What's the physical difference in the racks? Anyone know?

Thanks. I picked up a bentley with the parts. That job is a done deal. Now to figure why my fuel pump crapped out.

All.

Well, my 91 318is left me stranded for the first time. She's got some 170K miles on her. After replacing the CSB this weekend, it finally happened.
So my 91 left me in the parking lot in McLean yesterday. I get in, engine spins, but no familiar fuel pump humm. Today, I dropped in new relays hoping for a cheap fix. But still no dice. down $70!

Got a fuel pump on order from the dealer, guess that's the next step?

what else could cause the the fuel pump to stop buzzing away? I'm hoping it's the pump tomorrow. I will check the connections at the pump for contact.

If it's not getting a full 12v at the pump - what does that indicate? I dread having to take it to a shop, but fear I may have to as I need the car to commute back home to NJ !

so having said all that...any shop recommendations, good or bad in Arlington/Alexandria VA?

Forgive my ignorance here, but what exactly do you mean by preload? I am going to have to perform this operation soon.

General Topics / Stereo Speakers 5 1/4

thanks for the info so far. Good to know that 6 1/2s can be jammed up front without having to cut metal. I'm all for the stock look, but also suspect that the 5 1/4's can be limited in performance...and that's why I was putting out a feeler. However, I think anything's gotta be better than the stock tired speakers that I'm trying to push. Rears are strong, but fronts are washed out...just wondering if fronts should be bigger.

so I've scrubbed around the list, but really haven't seen anything that answers the mail.

Wondering what people's experience is with speaker combos. I'd like to run 5 1/4 to fit the stock holes, but am not opposed to other options if reasonable.

I'm considering Blaupunkt's GTx542 in the rear and GTc542 up front. Also considering Infinity Reference 5010cs.

Any experience/feedback would be appreciated.

Oh, I'm running a Kenwood KRC535 without an amp.

Electrical / Antenna Fuse blowing

So is this a different car altogether? If so, then it may be the antenna that's causing a draw on the battery.

My car had a draw. I traced it to the antenna. The antenna was frozen midway up, but when I started the car, I could hear the motor run. turns out the belt in the antenna had broken, so not sure if the motor ever stopped running or if the signal was still being sent. Well, I disconnected the antenna motor, and the battery stopped drawing down. Since then, I've replaced the antenna and no problems to date. I'd check that circuit.
