Gotcha. Nothin wrong with the S52 variant either... if anything maintenance will be easier/less expensive!

Congrats on the sale, someone got themselves a hell of a car. Fellow community member or someone on ebay?
Thanks Denis! The buyer first saw the car on bf.c and later placed a bid in my auction. He's semi local so chances are I might get a case of nostalgia when I see it in the future, hahahh.

I'll be around in another e30 sooner or later, no doubt :)

Ohhh goodie. A most appropriate upgrade. S52 or S54?
S52. The S54 models are holding their value even better, however they're out of my price range.

Sale with prospective buyer up north has fallen through.

Between getting a deposit and the deal coming to a halt, I’ve received well over a dozen emails/calls from interested buyers. As a result, I feel it’s only fair that I list the car on eBay in order to give each interested party an equal shot at purchasing the car. Quite frankly I wasn’t expecting this amount of interest and encourage anyone serious to come see the car in person and test drive it.

Side notes: The car is being listed with the BBS RS wheels, as pictured. A video of the car in motion has been added to both the original post and eBay.

Just Smogged & Registered in CA!

For sale here is my beloved 1991 318iS. Over the past 7+ years I’ve really become attached to it, and never imagined I’d part ways with it given its uniqueness and such great condition. But alas, after much thought, I'm officially selling the car in order to begin a new project.

A little bit of history. In 2005, after eight grueling months of searching far and wide, I finally found the car of my dream in 100% stock form. I’m the third proud owner of this E30. It’s an original Southern California car (rust free) which for a good portion of its life was dealer maintained at Rusnak/ Bob Smith here in Los Angeles, CA. In fact, I have a 1” thick manila folder containing BMW service records dating back to ’91, and a separate folder with my own maintenance records from ’05 on.

The car has original diamantschwarz paint which is holding up very well for its age. It has NEVER been in an accident (CLEAN title) and all body panels are original—matching vin#'s. In addition, it has never been auto-x/ tracked. Aside from some minor scuffs, and a couple dents here and there, the exterior is in fantastic condition. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve received compliments on the car from complete strangers. Seeing their reaction to the mileage is always priceless. I’ve put a tremendous amount of effort into car care maintenance. This includes washing/waxing regularly and using a factory BMW car cover any time the car was parked outdoor for longer periods of time. The interior compliments the exterior rather well. The front seats are in near mint condition and never saw the light of day up until a couple months back thanks to original sheepskin, full seat covers installed by I presume the first owner of the car. They are truly stunning. The same can be said for the rear bench. The carpeting as well as the headliner is in great condition. Some minor interior flaws include a loose sunroof headliner, sagging sunroof-- adjustment required, and the all too common, cracked dashboard—all of which can be addressed with a little bit of elbow grease and a six pack if you’re the hands on type.

In the time I’ve owned the car, it has been very reliable and has never let me down. Overall, it’s very solid, both electronically and mechanically and everything works as it should with the exception of power steering. The rack and p/s pump went bad some time ago and in this period of downtime I became accustomed to driving without the system in place. I simply never got around to repairing it. However, I did acquire a used, rebuilt rack, and a power steering pump which I will include in the sale for prospective buyers. The engine runs very well and has only seen high quality synthetic oil since I took ownership. For the past few years oil change intervals have occurred around 7k miles with Total/Elf 10w50 and Mann/Mahle oil filters. The transmission shifts smoothly through the gears while the clutch engages as it should without slipping. Both transmission and differential fluid has been replaced with Redline synthetic oil. The car drives straight and is a complete blast to drive whether on the highway or on a twisty road. The suspension is solid with no squeaks or rattles. Last, but not least, the R-12 based A/C blows cold to this day and works like a charm. It will be missed!

Over the past few years I have installed a few tasteful modifications/ maintenance items that I will list below,

Engine / Performance

  • Mark D’sylva 91 octane chip
  • Supersprint cat-back exhaust

The car has really treated me well. It deserves a good home. Please give it one.

I would love to see this car go to someone who will appreciate it as much as I have over the years. Someone who will maintain the car’s cleanliness and originality, and not transform it into a track rat or dump an M/S50 which seems to be the trend nowadays.

Serious buyers—can’t emphasis this enough, can contact me by email at * or by cell at *. Please do not waste my time. Window shoppers/ tire kickers need not apply. I'm extremely busy and my work schedule can get pretty hectic. However, I will make time for anyone who is serious about purchasing the car.

thanks for the info dave..i'll be doing a compression and leakdown test myself as soon as i can borrow the tools. i've never measured crank endplay before, do i need any special tools for that?

also, is there a reason motor mounts are so expensive? i'm seeing 80-100 each which seems crazy when m10 and m20 motor mounts are only 10-15

edit: this is the gasket kit i'm ordering, it looks like it comes with everything you mentioned

M42 motor mounts are hydraulic (liquid filled), hence the cost. You can always go with e28, 535 mounts at a fraction of the cost, however expect an increase of nvh.
