Glad you found the problem, and it's running well for you!
I get 2.5 bar on my gauge for fuel pressure. Which is 36.25 psi so spot on!
Fuel filter wouldn't hurt could also be the problem

Hi Sion
Your crank sensor is therefore 6 degrees retarded, not a big deal though but something to watch out for because the spark for ignition will happen a little late, cams can be adjusted easily most people leave there exhaust cam alone but advance there inlet 5 degrees forward.

You have to take the gauge cluster out and tighten the ground nuts, they are the only stainless nuts on the back of the cluster.
Hi guys
Lambertius came around to my house yesterday, first time I have met him, and we went for a nice little drive in the Dandenong mountains!
Itbs sound awesome, couldn't hear the light flywheel unless you opened the door or window even then you had to concentrate. In e36 though! Perhaps more insulation than a e30?
Could definitely hear the itbs though, very cool sound!
The car could really move too possibly better than my other friends e36 323i (m52b25) and about the same as a 318is e30 even though e36s pack an additional ~300kg
Would love to see this in a e30 318is now we would be talking, sorry Hayden!
I guess I just prefer e30s. Less bus like.
Just thought I'd comment on this setup as I'm the only member near him.

Hi Jason
Yes all m40 318i euros came with single mass flywheel that I have seen, took me by surprise when I opened a m42 and saw that dual mass thing.
In saying that though all 318i update 88 onwards had air conditioning in Australia anyway. If it's 215 mm I'd have to say that is what it's from.
Good candidate for lightening. You should be able to get a lot of weight off it.
E is for air in German.
Cheers Rohan

Hi
My battery was in the front too, coupe 318is e30. Australia but again we get euro models.
But we are upside down Dave!

Hi
That's a nice bus, usually two tone tartain seats though rare to have leather!

You should be able to use the M42 front case, right? I'm not sure if the oil pumps are the same between the M42 and M44. I've heard one is slightly thicker to improve oil volume.
The m42 oil pump is 8.5 mm thick and the m44 oil pump is 10 mm thick.
It does not make difference if the engine is warm (oil), it's the startup (cold thick oil) that this mod helps with plus makes lifters more stable for revs.
My 2c anyway
Found this in the Bentley service manual.
Not sure what unit of measurement they are using? Need to convert to a format I'm familiar with and then most likely adapt it to work with my suspension setup.
Problem with all of this is I can't easily tweak the alignment settings.
Degrees and minutes'
1 degree equals 60 minutes
Hope this helps
Cheers Rohan
Hi guys
The 2 inch (roughly) hose from the thermostat goes to the radiator, but you will need a new one due to it being required to attach to the radiator 3 inches across to the left.
The over flow goes to the expansion tank.
I used a e36 overflow bottle. Looks like a dozen clear tennis balls together mounted it to left hand guard.
The m20 oval overflow bottle cracks due to its shape.
The hose from the engine (1 inch) goes to the overflow as well.
Also there's a overflow from expansion tank out of engine bay 1/4 inch.
Cheers Rohan

Hi
The original e30 valve springs are the best oem BMW set up for the m42, however if you use them then are stuck with the 7 mm valve stem due to the retainer. Late m42 came with behive spring and 6 mm stem which is a lot better.
I've even seen a m52 with oem m42 dual springs but he had to get the retainer made for the 6 mm valve stem though.
Hope this helps Rohan

Hi Norm
Your connecting rods will need to be selected at the same time as your Pistons! To hit your desired compression ratio. Which is?
Valves are standard 7 mm stem and 33/30.5. But if your buying new ones to get 6 mm stem go 34/31.5 mm (oversize). More air more power good
Valve springs on the e30 m42 are really good if your planning on going to 8000 rpm change them otherwise wouldn't bother.
The s50 cam tray mod is the same as Ralph 33 mm lifters. You need to do it to use the smaller lifters. M42 lifters are all 35mm. But pictures speak a thousand words and video is even better. YouTube s50 m42 cam tray mod, you'll find it!
Inlet manifold your new donk will need a 47.5 mm manifold but there ways around this, ie long duration cams or itbs. There's 42 mm set getting developed on this site. S50 itbs are 48 mm and there's companies that make 45mm around.
Parts for the m44 timing chain conversion mabeer did a great write up on it, In his build.
All you need for the single row timing chain is a timing chain from MM. You can get you camshaft wheels ground down too, lightens things up again!
Cheers Rohan
