I started to smell gas a while ago but it seems to be getting stronger . I need help from the gas tank experts here..............I am attaching photos and as you can see it's dry in the pump area but the other area is wet with gas.
1) Is this a hose leak ?
2) If it's a hose leak can it be fixed without removing the gas tank?
3) Is it possible that the tank is leaking on the top?
Thanks in advance

Hi mate
It looks like one of the pipes has split you may be lucky and not have to remove the tank and just slide the new hose along the top
-
Hey I had the same issue. I had to replace the hose on the drivers side, where it goes to the fuel filter.
-
It appears to be the hard pipe as when I start the car it begins to fill the area around the hard pipe.Maybe I can snake a fuel line over the top . Is there more than one hard pipe that goes across the top? It looks like two when I look in that area,
-
I think so. I had to cut into one of the corners to get access. I couldn't do it from below so I drilled a hole and used tin snips. If its the hard pipe then you know what you have to do right? Change the tank. Lets just hope for the hose. Good luck on your repair. K.

I'm pretty sure it's the hard pipe. The car is about ready for it's winter nap so I'll just gather parts through the winter. Next spring's list is getting big.
Replace timing chain and components
Replace fuel tank
While I'm under there I'm going to replace the guibo and center bearing.
Oh , the labor of love ............................

True.
Hey by the way did you go to the Show and Shine at Bavarian Autosport in New Hampshire? I went for the first time this year and it was pretty cool. I plan to take my car next year.

No, I didn't go .I say I'm going to go every year but something comes up and I don't go . I live about 2 hours from there. Maybe next year.

Alright brother, well I hope to see you there.

Any reason to not bypass the hard line for the time being? Basically, run a fuel grade hose from pump, to the filter? I am asking, as I have this issue, and was hoping to drive the car for a couple of weeks before I put it up and replace the fuel tank.
-
I bypassed it and don't have any issues with it. been like that for a little over 2 years. just make sure you get the right hose and you should be good.
-
You're making me paranoid. I also occasionally smell fuel. I'll have to check those hoses. Not to honk my own horn, but I went and bought an OEM tank already (knowing my luck)...so I'm prepared for the worst!
