Im wanting to do an Engine change on my E36 1999 318i Cabrio Complete M3 Replica which has a very underpowerd m43 sohc 8v.(It turns heads till i pull away!!)
Im wanting a M42 or M44 does anyone know if it will fit my current Gbox(m43). And what else I may need or to do for this swap, Has anyone done this or have info on it I know I will need new ecu and will i need new wiring harness i will need new exhaust manifold because it differs in length abit but if anyone out there can give us guidence or advice that would be great I personly think it would bolt right up to the bell housing of my current g-box.
This would be a good first step for a bit more power then i could look at a Supercharger in the near future I know there are alot of people out there saying Just drop in a m52 25 or 28 but here in the UK the Tax man is waiting to pounce and the m42 has the same tax group as mine Just 16v And 140bhp.
Any answer would be great Thanks

Don't know specifically what you would need. But from my research... any BMW transmission can be mated to any bmw engine. That's just from my readings though.

the gearbox would be a direct fit...
