it died the other day :( alternator shorted out which caused the oil pump to fail... it the carried on running with no pump, the big end bearings exploded and it blew an end cap off a con rod. smokie everywhere, no oil leaks supprisingly though. still runs but sounds like a machine gun now... oh and its missing on one cylinder. what can i do? how much will this cost to fix/replace?
-
Sorry to here of your bad news mate
It might be cheaper to replace with another engine:confused:
-
thats what i though, new lump £150
-
Where in the UK are you???
-
north london mate why do you ask?
-
lump. ha ha!
i love the words they use in Europe. Bonnet, boot, saloon...
edit: i apologize for not having anything constructive to add.
-
sorry to here ... does that make it a 'dodgy motor'
Btw Congrats to JB on his F1 title ..!!
-
no it makes it broken.

By far cheaper to buy a used engine. How would a failing alternator have anything to do with an oil pump failure? Oil pump is driven from the crank no connection or anything to do with the alternator.
-
^That's what I was wondering???
-
someone forgot to tighten there bolts...
btw, for future refference..how often do you guys pull the pan and tighten your oil pump bolts?
-
Alternator failure huh?
