Title: Performance chip
Post by: bmrboy on September 18, 2009, 05:44:04 PM
ok, so I was an idiot that just wanted a bit more power out of my 95 318is so I coughed up $53 dollars for an ebay chip. As expected out of a $53 dollar chip, I did not receive the performance side pretty much just a stock chip with a fancy sticker on it. I know TMS performance chips are worth it, so my question is can I still switch over to a TMS chip without any problems?. I ask this because a pin broke on my stock chip while taking it out, and IF the ebay chip did change anything in my ECU would that cause the TMS chip to not be compatible with my car anymore? The only thing I did notice with the ebay chip was it caused my check engine light to come on sometimes when I started the car but as soon as I revved about 2000 it went away. I know this is a odd question but just to be sure.
Any input is appreciated, Thanks

Nope won't matter.  Put any chip you want in there.  What "brand" ebay chip was it so that future buyers stay away from that one?

I recommend Mark D chips for what that's worth

I also had a Pro-Formance chip from ebay in my car that wasn't too terribly awful

Who ever wrote the chip didn't calculate the checksum correclty and that's more likely the reason for the check engine light... PM me with what your looking to get out of a performance chip... I can write you a chip for a good price that will produce the same effect as the MD chip

The chip didn't exactly have a "brand". I have never heard of Mark D chips but it would be too late anyways I already ordered in a TurnerMotorsport chip by Jim Conforti.

bearsBMW- thanks for the offer
