I don't know how long I can host this, it's around a 200mb download... the interface kinda sux, I didn't do it, but pls. post questions here I guess.
This includes the most complete engine teardown / install proceedure I've ever seen for the M42.
I anyone is interested in mirroring this file, please let me know, thanks.
(edit: thank you gigag33k for co-hosting)
Mirror 1 (http://www.thejollyroger.org/misc_stuff/e30_repair.zip)
Mirror 2 (http://ee1394.com/bmw/docs/factory/repair.zip)
you can check it out here:
http://ee1394.com/bmw/docs/factory/repair/en/index1.htm
click on 'main groups'
and then (for example) engine -> m42 -> Const. Groups (on the upper right) and then click through the item detail, use arrow buttons to see prev/next pages.

Excellent find! This will definitely come in handy one day.
-
Thank you!

I would love to have a copy.

I'm getting over 550KB/s download speed. NICE! I wish my webserver was on an OC-3 link!
-
i wish your webserver was on an OC-3 link, too...
-
is the server pulling slow, the office might have limited my bandwidth
-
250 - 300k / second for this nerd...
(they aren't on to us yet!)
-
I can normally get 600k (but Im in the same state) and thats limited by my home isp. stolen internets is great :)
-
Thanks for posting it.
-
dude this is gonna help me sooo much.
im gonna have to get this thing printed out though.
-
do you know how to print it?
I have free printing at school But it is in a weird format
-
I think our esteemed sheepdog has extracted the image files into a .pdf ...maybe he will chime in, with a link!
-
I had extracted them all. Problem is, my motherboard died and wiped out my hard drives.
I will re-do it this weekend if I can. Does not take me long.
-
thanks that would be phenominal, how many pages is it?

Oh noes - was this the motherboard that housed your overclocked 805D in your home built cooling case?

Yup.
Plus the last 2 or 3 weeks has been nutty for work, I have not really had much chance to do anything, including work on my e30.
Just been a bad few weeks.
Busy as hell, burned on some deals, and lost a lot of computer parts.
Other than the bad ram stick (bad 512ddr2) I think things are running ok.
Just need to get some time to relax.
-
Any idea what failed and/or why?
-

Same here, only its been the last 2 or 3 months for me :(
-

I did not do it into a pdf, but the easiest way to get them is just download teh file and extract them.
When I did it, it was before I had alink to the individual files.
If someone really wants a PDF version, I can probably work one up though.
-
I was just looking for some way to print it. Format really doesnt matter, but I dont know how to print it as is.

Considering it is thousands of pages, that may not be a wise decision unless you have a good laser printer.
With a bubblejet or inkjet, it would be cheaper to go buy the actual book.
-
He has access to free school printing, refer to his previous post.

Ahh ok, well easiest way is to just print out the images with a catalog.
-
Just found this. Thanks for the file. :)
I didn't want to buy the Bentley since it is only up to '90 and wasn't sure if it actually covered the M42 motors in detail or not.

It doesn't cover the m42, however it's useful in every other aspect.

Thanks.
-
made this a sticky so its nice and easy to find.

Is there a link to this type of manual for the E36 or at least the M42 engine?
I'm looking at having to pull the head on my 91 this weekend and I need to get something in the way of a manual before then. Any help is appreciated. Anybody local have a Bentley I could scan into .pdf and get posted up?
-
Never mind....I just found the other thread.
-
I revisited this - the repair manual -and find a lot of M42 stuff.
Click "Engine 11" on main group page.
Select M42 on next page.
Go back to top and click "Constr. Group"
Select "Engine - disassemble and assemble" or a specific group.
Click arrows at top to page through.
I had never really looked at this before. There's also "Torque Values" and "Technical data". Clearances, settings and all kinds of stuff are in there.

-
sweet just bought a bentely manual and it doesnt cover the m42 engine (as we all know). this will help out a lot.
-
Does anyone have a working link for the manual?
-
The ee1394 link works fine, loads right up for me, even at work.
-
Any way to download the files? I'd rather download in case the online version goes bye-bye...
....nevrermind, mirror 2 seems to be working....
-
Does anyone know where I can find this (now)??
Either the bentley manual on PDF to download or the official one or anything else useful.....???? :(
Thanks a lot

Bump.
I'm looking too...
-
mirror 1 is a bad link
-
I noticed the links are down :( but luckily I found a pdf of this manual at e30tech.com.
here is the link: http://media.savarturbo.se/~mattias/bmw-e30-repair-manual-v7.pdf.
Want to also take the opportunity to thank the forum and its members really helped me (complete novice) when my cylinder head cracked, shes running better than ever!:)
-
Thanks
-
I used to go to ee1394.com and tap into the online e30 manual, but that site has been unavailable for awhile.
http://media.savarturbo.se/~mattias/ (http://media.savarturbo.se/~mattias/)
*used* to be a slightly better point of entry. Right-click on the file, choose save link and the 107 MB pdf file will be on its way -- better than waiting for it to load in the browser.
This one works and is more complete:

Just bought a '90 318i sedan. Looking forward to getting it running. Thanks again!
-
I can not seem to find a way to access the manual. Any help would be appreciated.
-
same here
-
I've got this and possibly a few other manuals on my computer. I can get it up tomorrow but can someone suggest a good site to upload to?
I want to buy the books in the future because it's annoying to read off the laptop, although if you are already proficient in repairing your car, simply glancing this will be good enough because you will remember. I think the Bentley manual was the best but its expensive ~ $100 and worst of all, it splits in 1990, so for the 318is you need both (e30 for chassis, e36 for engine info)
-
I've been looking around for one of these myself. Sendspace would seem the obvious answer?
-
Anymore besides SendSpace? I'm trying http://www.mediafire.com/index.php for the big files (above 300mb). Note: preferably not a site which requires waiting or queuing in line, has a ton of pop-ups/adware, or will go dead in 30 days.

Please add to this, if you have nothing to contribute then upload something already listed for redundancy purposes. I counted at least 3 E30 sites, not just links but entire sites, that went down since the last time I bookmarked them (which was about a year ago). Look here: http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16840 - nearly all invalid. M42club must be the exception as all the sites that disappeared were NOT full of arseholes while the ones that are, seem to be doing pretty well.

I don't know what browser you're using but here's what I do with firefox and the noscript extension. I replicated the freeze issue, then cleared it by giving temporary permission in noscript for filefactory.com, reloaded the web page, and got it to count down.

We are still looking for the E30 Bentley manual
(http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/3841/cvb390.jpg)
I still haven't bought it yet, but even when I do I'll have to go through the trouble of scanning every page. Is there a download already out there? Does an electronic (not crudely scanned) version exist?
At least it's cheaper than the E36 one, at only $20-40, ($60 on the official site).
http://www.amazon.com/BMW-E30-Service-Manual-1984-1990/dp/0837603250

OK, I'm doing the d/l from the last updated site. Should I look to get a Bentley for the other E30s? I had one with my last car and didn't think much of it this time and just assumed that there would be a Bentley for the 318. Am I wrong on this?
-
The E30 Bentley manual goes to 1990. The E36 Manual starts from 1992. So unfortunately we have the one car that need both manuals.
The E36 manual for us is specifically useful for M42 info and can be found easily, just look for the links above. It is a computer version, I don't remember if a paper version for the E36 was sold but it's definitely not sought after as a book cannot compete with a 1000+ page pdf file. The E30 Bentley manual which deals with the rest of the car does not seem to have a computer version being from the 80s and we haven't been able to find a scan for download.

This doesn't work either.
Can anyone actually download this manual, or do I really have to go to BMW to find out a simple torque figure???
The Bentley E36 manual is just as useless as the E30 one - it covers the M44 and not the M42.
-
I wish I'd downloaded the html version of the BMW factory repair manual when it was avaliable. PM me for some direction.
-
Which one doesn't work/which one do you need !?
-
I'm about to do a rebuild on an m42 and I'm having a hell of a time finding a good link to the manual. It looks like the best manual for my needs is the e36 factory manual, but is there any reason I would need the e30 manual if I'm just using the engine & trans?
-
Anybody know if there is a specific Bentley guide for the 1991 318is?
Getting ready to complete a head gasket swap and wanted to pick up a guide.
Thanks

No there isn't...E30 for the body..E36 for the engine..

This horse has been long dead and so are the links. I used to have every manual on my phone but never downloaded them, and now i cannot for the life of me find the BMW factory manuals anywhere anymore. Does anybody have them at all? Can we please repost them if so.
