Title: timing help please !!!
Post by: torres_is on September 10, 2009, 05:42:28 AM
my m42 seems to have a timing chain problem,

i recently replaced the tensioner hoping to solve the problem but i wasn't so lucky

what parts would i need to replace while the cover is off besides the chain, and guardrails ????

ohh, and 6 months ago i smashed up my sump can continued to drive for a few minutes.

could the noise between 2500-3000 be related to this ??

thanks

check your sprocket condition. If the camshaft sprockets tips are pointy, they need replacement. (also replace the crankshaft one if the cam ones are due)  for the oil sump, did the oil pressure light come on? and what kind of noise are you talking about?

i suspect that your engine sufferd internal damage due to oil starvation, but if it still runs, then great. can you post a video of your rattle? (ie a link to it). a wild guess is that it might be caused by the deflection wheel that's not deflecting right. some ppl around here had the defletion wheel nut sheared off and it was eating away the lower timing cover.
