Title: At a crossroads
Post by: lcgtrplr on July 14, 2009, 10:17:14 PM
About a month ago i overheated 8 hours from home. Shop in MS told me my head gasket was blown. Decided to trailer it home. Due to schedule have not had time to really look at it. Started it up a few days ago and noticed that i did
have some water leaking around the overflow tank at the bottom. Replaced tank and O ring.  The leak is still there somewhere from the bottom of the radiator so that is a must deal with.
The car heats up and climbs till it gets about 3/4 and there is no heat from the vents and the top hose gets really hot. I noticed some foam out the bleeder screw as well.

Still somewhat in head gasket denial i did a compression test both dry and with oil in the cylinders.

Dry
1-165
2-150
3-170
4-170

Oil in cylinder
1-220
2-200
3-225
4-225

2 questions. Is there still a chance i have a bad head gasket or could it be
water pump or thermostat(replaced) 2 months ago.

2nd question Is the bottom end a little too weak to put any more money in the top end?

BTW after the thermostat was replaced it seemed to run a little over 1/2 which it ran a little under 1/2 before so maybe my mechanic did not bleed it well.

The car has about 250k. It is not a factory color...It is yellow. Body looks
good. Front End is all new and have recent bilsteins. Interior is almost perfect. replaced hoses under intake about 1 year ago. Also a new lsd diff

Need some ideas here. Maybe another engine(used) have this one rebuilt?

Or maybe its not the head gasket.
