Title: clock settings on e30 iS
Post by: 2761377 on July 07, 2009, 11:43:08 AM
the owners manual says a bmw dealer can reset the clock/thermometer to what i would call 'euro' spec- 24hr clock and temp readout in celsius. i've looked at the back of a clock at a junkyard and did not see an obvious switch. has anybody done this and if so, how?

Push in the little button and hold then press the consume button

This is on the 13button OBC

Did you see a little rotary switch?  I think that's the one.  With markings like 12/24 c/m?  I'll check mine later to tell you for sure.

there was a rotary switch but it was marked 30/60/90 or something. if i had seen 12 or 24 i would have figured it out. i do suspect this switch as being the one, but since the wreck had no power i couldn't prove it.

thanks for your reply.

I just pulled mine out of storage...the three settings are (clockwise):
degF/12h
degC/12h
degC/24h

So if the one you pulled is 30/36/90, set it to the first one.  Part number is 1 377 803

I'd toss two new bulbs in before you install it...they're the same as the ones in the dash.  There is also a 'light bar' that might have burned-out bulbs.  I think that 6vdc Radio Shack bulbs will fit.  I'd be tempted to find some BMW color LEDs and install them with proper resistors.  I've seen that info somewhere out there.

The 13-button OBC has the lightbar for the display and a single twist-on lamp identical to the majority of lamps in the instrument cluster. Nihilator on bimmerforums.com makes a nice LED lightbar, and I bought one to put in my son's 90 325iC. Price is $15 plus a rebuildable lightbar. Highly recommended. I built one with LEDs but it's tedious fitting and soldering a resistor to trim the voltage going to the LEDs. If you search on OBC LED lightbar, you can find the DIYs.
