My flebay chip was just fine.  Felt a noticeable difference in the car right away.  I'd probably buy again!

If you don't mind spending a few more buck I would go for the MarkD chip. Its really worth it.

Well, apperantly, MarkD don't have the chip for my euro dme, according to this link http://www.m42club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8430

Sadly :(

Suddently, my new hope is here http://www.m42club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8903&postcount=#15

but still wondering his chip will be as good as reliable as MarkD's though.

I can't seem to find it but I think it was "dinan" chip.  I don't know, I figured if I went a little higher priced it would be better.  Seems though that they stopped making them on flebay.

Post by: 318lotis on July 25, 2009, 02:59:56 PM
we have 110 octane here at the exxon station located close to lake and race track.
i sometime use one gallon mixed with five gallons, its a powerfull boost.

I stick with known manufacturers chips. Many of the ebay chips are copies of these chips, and likely fine, but it's essentially stolen. I would rather support a company to inspire them to continue to offer products for bimmers so I can keep putting go-fast parts on my cars.

Watch that your high octane fuel does not have ethanol added. Best I can get (non race) by me is 91 no eth. The 93 has 10% ethanol, and the car runs MUCH better on the pure 91. There is a station about 10 miles from my work that has 106 on a regular pump...

i always use 91 octane but i dont know if it has eth.

Sweet went and checked that out and my cover is falling all apart :(... So i guess i need to unscrew the 2 gold bolts and pull out? Im don't wanna do that until im ready to buy and install the chip. Does the chip get soldered on the ecu?

Your car is a OBD1? EWS? What ECU # are you running?

for any m42 ecu the chip is seated(not soldered) in a 28Pin slot on the motherboard like in the image below (http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/Mult_Chip_Install/pic3.jpg)

Hey guys. On my quest for a little pep on the cheap I'm considering an ebay chip. I found this thread in the forum history and have gotten a good deal of info from it but I have a few more questions. Are the chips you're talking about this one here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-PERFORMANCE-CHIP-89-92-E30-318IS-IC-M42-ECU-175-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem53e092c4d6QQitemZ360250000598QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories have any of you used this chip? Also, many of you have said you noticed a gain and it's worth the money but just want to ask again. What kind of gains (Estimation) would you say you received power and mpg wise?

The important thing to note is "cheap".  I'd love one of yours or a MarkD.  But 200 bucks is a lot of money to some people, including myself.  Hence the ebay chip consideration...  Hard on the heart but not on the wallet :)

Yeah, I'm sure yours is better but I am on a tight budget. Can anyone attest to the ebay chip's gains? Comments?

I wouldnt mind spending the money for a decent chip.. its the price of gas that kills me. running 91 octane would start to add up. Im not trying to spend all that money just for a few extra horses

You should also see a minor increase in gas mileage.
