I have been trying to insert the bloody special bmw flywheel lock pin for hours I bought it from Pelican parts but cannot seem to insert it, I can insert a drill bit to feel for TDC and the drill bit goes in beautifully. It feels like the pin is too long (maybe 2 inches) and seems to catch on the metal around the hole preventing it from inserting to the full length, the engine is an m42. Can somebody provide some guidance... is it usually this hard to insert a little rod? Serge.

We always use bolts around here. :D
Just kidding...I'd suspect grit or bits of crud are keeping it out. I'd use whatever high-strength steel happened to fit.

I had the same problem with the tool (also purchased from Pelican). I tried to see if I could clean up the hole with a file but was unsuccessful. I ended up using a drill bit to pin the flywheel.
