Title: 1991 318 IS vent fans dead
Post by: BMWTarg on June 21, 2009, 11:39:15 PM
As long as I'm here, the environment fans don't function either. They will occasionally tease us and work, but for the most part it is dead to the world.
The fact that every great once in a while they will work rules out a fuse (?) but for the life of me I'm tired of these little bugaboos this thing throws at us.
The instrument cluster has all kinds of issues too, odometer stopped working, brake sensor light on even though it has brand new linings... anyway, the fan is what we need... any help would be appreciated on this one too.

Get a used fan.  It's not too hard to replace.

Clusters are vulnerable on the car...you might have dead batteries.  So a search for 'SI board' to find info.  Many on this board would be willing to send you a replacement cluster.  You can swap your speedo to keep the odo mileage accurate.

The brake sensor wires crack.  Find the offending wire & splice it.

thinking one of (or 2) things for the fan. 1 the switch (10-15$) may be dead and 2 the resistor pack (15$) is toasted.
