Title: Car starts but cuts out with throttle
Post by: tunnie09 on June 20, 2009, 05:55:54 PM
Hi. I bought my 98'R' E36, a couple of weeks ago. The tosser i bought it off said it needed petrol in it, ("thats why it was a bit sluggish" he said).
The petrol gauge didnt work but i thought it was empty. When i drove down the motorway, it wouldnt let me go past 65MPH. After a couple of days of being very sluggish when throttling, it just died. It was as if it ran out of petrol. I put petrol in but no difference. I tried everything i could think of, including; Coil Pack, Spark Plugs, Cam Sensor, Crank Position Sensor, Injectors, Throttle Valve Potentiometer, Idle Control Valve, Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter and Battery. I also had it put on Diagnostics and there was an Unknown Code in there. Please help as i am absolutely stumped as well as my brother-in-law and the garage i put it in ! Many thanks to all. Wayne.

Air Flow Meter or fuel pressure regulator? I would have bet fuel pump, have you tested the pressure or verified voltage to the pump?
