Title: What do I have?

I recently inhereted a 91 318is from a friend of mine.  The car was originallt purchased from german but doesnt look like any e30 that I have ever seen.  I it a 4 cylinder with basket weaves, crank roof, and spolier kit all around.  From what I have read here, it is a M42. The interior is black leather with a weird modified stripe coming down the center.  
I ws hoping someone could point me in the right direction where I can do a VIN check to see exactly what this thing is.

Any info would be great.

I'd bet an M42.  If it has two cams...

you can plug the last 7 digits of your VIN in at realoem.com, and it will tell you what car you had and what month it was made etc.

here is the link:  it asks for serial # which is the last 7 of VIN.

you should put your pics up man.  i have the same type of odd car.  e30, no badges but the roundels,  fully dressed mtech2 body kit, crank sunroof, 5 speed and four cylinder.

its a very cool little engine that has given me zero trouble in the few months i have owned it.  i mistakenly sold my 89 325i and immediately went searching for a replacement and found this one.  i am not selling this one ever.  everything i love in a car.  good mileage,  fun and peppy engine, five speed, four door.  plus,  my favorite bmw body style.  well,  this and my e21 are my favorites.

I have a good book actually, about some guy who did the 92 in one season If I had the money on time that would be fun.
