Title: E36 M42 to e30
Post by: CrusherCurtis on June 05, 2009, 09:04:37 AM
What will I need to do to put an 1992 e36 m42 into my 1991 e30 318i.  I've been trying to do some research and it seams the only thing I might need to change is the intake manifold.  Is this true?  Is there any thing else?

The oil pans, intake manifold, and headers must come from an E30.

Don't forget that the E36 M42 has knock sensors, and the E30 DME does not have control for those. I believe the motor mount arms are different as well. The M42 sits pretty low in the E36.

Hi, guys I am new on here but this is a project that I am just finishing off myself, I have an M42 from a '94 E36, have fitted the Sump from the M40 that was in the car prior to this, spliced the harness in and have it running, as mine is a RHD E30 I am having to use the E30 318is exhaust manifold.

I plan on doing a write up in the near future, but please feel free to ask questions
