Post by: eatotie on June 03, 2009, 12:37:49 AM
I recently purchased a 93 oct chip from markd and its great! But within the next 2 weeks ill be boosting the m42 and im not sure if ill be able to use that chip with a turbo setup. Anyhelp?
is it even possible to run the stock ecu with a turbosetup?

p.s. new to the site. so uhh... (when i first got her)

How much boost?  In general, I would say no, you can't (or at least shouldn't) run a 93 octane MarkD chip with a turbo.  For low-boost rigs (<8psi), I have read that the stock chip is more or less fine (with some larger injectors proportional to the amount of boost being run), using a higher pressure fuel pressure regulator.  The big issue is ignition timing.  The stock chip has very conservative ignition advances, and the big gains come from advancing it a bunch in performance chips.  That is probably a no-no under boost, given the stock CR of 10:1.

What are your turbo plans exactly?

Low boost for this summer I have the manifold and a stock rx7 turbo with wastegate and oil lines i was planning to only run about 5-7 lbs with no work to the internals or injectors.
may even skip the intercooler.
am i still in the safe zone?

Well, it MIGHT be worth a try.  I think it sounds a little risky though.  The M42 is well built, so you might just end up with some pinging.  Push too hard & you could toss a rod or melt something.

Maybe try running it on the stock chip first.  Hopefully you kept it.

hmm well ill have a play with it & see what happens, this weekend ill update with some pics. All together the whole setup cost me less than $500 =j and im sure with the stock chip i can get 5lbs safely
thanks for the info.
