Title: Exhaust smell
Post by: Systema on May 11, 2009, 04:07:53 PM
I've owned my 1991 318i for about two weeks now, and in the past few days I've noticed that I can smell exhaust when I'm driving around. I can only really smell it when I'm in the driver's seat, sort of toward the front corner of the window. From what I can tell, it's not coming from any of the a/c vents, or from anywhere around the dash, so it's not like my engine compartment is flooded with exhaust gas and there's a hole in my dash that's letting it all in. The manifold looks fine from just looking under the hood, but I haven't jacked the car up yet and had a good look.

I drive with the windows down, mostly, and I could understand smelling exhaust when I'm stopped at a light or something, but even driving around at 45mph, I can distinctly smell it. Any ideas on what the problem could be?
