Let me help a bit....

For E36 318's (M42 and M44) there were only ever 2 kits that I know of, One a SuperCharger (belt driven) and one a Turbo Charger (exhaust driven). I am not even going to count the KO Performance "kit". Please look elsewhere, that "kit" isn't worth your time.

The Turbo kit was made by MosselMan and I have personally never seen one or heard of any that had it. It looked like a nice kit, but they don't make it anymore from what I know.

The Supercharger kit was from Downing/Atlanta (DASC) and I personally DO have this kit. It is a wonderful kit and they made very high quality pieces that all fit as they should. The only issues I had was 2 of the small vacuum lines were a bit too short and they started to crack pretty quickly. One trip to AutoZone and $3 later and I had 6 feet of vacuum hose at my disposal.

HOWEVER, Downing/Atlanta MIGHT have a kit or two for your car left. I was told I snagged the last 1994-1995 318 kit, but since you have an M44 they might just have one left. It is pricey at $3499 USD, but it really is worth every penny. The install isn't vey difficult either, you just would need to read the directions slowly and some areas are a little foggy in what you should do. and seeing as I am not going anywhere anytime soon, I and others that have the kit would be able to help clear up some areas.

The other route, a custom build, is something I would not recommend that you attempt, at least, at this point in time. You said you know nothing about Forced Induction setups, so I would do so much reading on the topic (especially on boosting M42/M44 motors) that it makes your brain hurt. I know I searched for countless hours on Turbo systems before I finally decided to go turbo, but then the DASC kit fell into my lap, and I always wanted that.

Hope this helps, but seriously, don't jump into something you know nothing about.

I'm not sure if it would work on an E36 considering you have DISA.

DISA + Differential Air Intake System

There is a valve on all E36 M42/M44 intake manifolds that opens at a certain RPM to allow use of all 4 intake runners more efficiently.

Also, Call Downing, you'll get much further that way.
