Title: AFM Question
Post by: El-Kanal on May 03, 2009, 01:25:32 PM
Hi, I´m curently tuning my engine, leaving it N/A though and also trying to keep the stock ECU. Curently I´m working on the COPs and want to move on o the intake and exhaust. Now I know the main restriction on the M42 is the AFM on the intake.
Deleting it, or doing the MAF conversion is prety problematic in my book, but has someone tryed using two AFMs? I know the R34 Skylines use two MAFs f.e. but they are twincharged on the other hand.
If im not  mistaken, the AFMs are baffle door type, so it should be only a matter of wiring two pots in serries and changing the resistance values?
Is someone here into electronics LOL?
Here are some pics of the skyline:

Why would you want to use 2 afms?

I don't understand how that would free up any airflow at all.

metric mechanics 2.1L stroker M42 uses the stock AFM, is N/A, and makes 205hp.
The AFM can't be that bad, can it?

I have an E36, and acording to ETK There was no change in the AFM between e30 and e36 M42s, but maybe you mean the M44 AFM?

wel, I'm in Europe and it seems like some of us here swap the e36 afm, it is a different one it seems like. But maybe in the US it happened on the M44's, if anybody can confirm?
