Title: Ignition on E36 vs E30
Post by: El-Kanal on April 28, 2009, 06:56:45 PM
Sorry for spaming the boards with noob questions, but i couldnīt find the answers. Iīve been looking more into the engine managment etc, and am not quite sure if a COP kit could be isntaled on the E36 M42, does it still use separate coils, or is there only one in the box? Various sourcecs differ alot from each other and i donīt want to take my only coil box apart LOL. Thanks alot...

Yes, it can be installed in the E36. I just did it a few days ago. Take a look at the connector that's plugged into the coil pack. What you have to do is clip that off and splice it into a coil harness for an I6 engine. That way you'll have connectors to go to the individual coil packs.

And no, you don't have to take your coil pack apart. This will get rid of your old coil pack and you'll have the individual coils over the spark plugs.

If you want, I have a Word document that explains it all. PM me with your e-mail address if you want it.
