that my car is an imported model? i just got off the phone with bmw-usa and the phone rep said it was bought in europe by a military guy and brought back here after purchase where it was serviced in huntsville alabama till the family i got it from brought it to san antonio (95ish).
sweet, its a federalized euro model. so the euro stuff i am putting in is supposed to be in it.

Sweet, are you able just to call them up and they can give you the history on who bought your car? Cool to see you on m42club. How do you like the car so far?

you have to give them the vin but they didn't tell me who bought it. just that a military guy bought it in europe and brought it back in 93 where it started being serviced in huntsville alabama. i figure since that is where they train helicopter pilots the guy was a warrant officer or a commissioned officer since he bought it new and brought it back. the part from 95 on i know because the lady who sold it to me said her husband bought it in 95 and they have owned it since.
now, i wonder if this is an m42 or m40 since i have no idea which cars came with the m40 (if it was even offered in europe in 91). i just want ot make sure i know which motor is in the car since i cannot get a build sheet as easy as everyone else is able to.

8 valve or 16 valve. look at the valve cover.
top is m42
bottom is m40

Let's hope it's an m42. ;) Awesome that it is a euro model though!

dang, i am going to have to pop the hood to check. i have only popped the hood once or twice and cannot think which i have. oh wait, the m40 has a distributor cap on the end of the cam and head like the m20? then i have the m42 because it has wores running to coils on the side of the fender or something. nothing is running to the front like an m20
