Title: 5th Gear Troubles
Post by: SonomaGTLN2 on April 25, 2009, 10:50:41 AM
I am having trouble shifting into 5th gear...all the other gears shift smoothly but 5th goes into gear and when I disengage the clutch it wants to jump out...once cruising it stays in gear fine on and off the throttle. I just changed the fluid last year so I don't think it's that...  Any ideas?

same problem with the 4th gear, wants to jump out and i got to slam it in. wierd noises come from the tranny, i dont really like it. heard by my mecanic friend that its the back synchros, could it be the culprit?

how many miles ?

I know not the same rig, but a friend wore out his shifting forks, casue when he drove he rested his hand on the shifter a lot, puttiong pressure on the shifter fork, slowly wearing it, at least thats what the mechanic told him, cause the rest of the tranny was fine

Interesting, I do the same, though I've only had the trans for 3000 miles.  Overall its about 130k on the trans/motor.

Thanks for the responses, I'll probably just pick up a spare and dismantle this one to see what it looks like inside.
