Is there any place in the States you can send a throttle body to to get it bored out a bit to open up the intake side? Thanks..

its not needed.
the metric mechanic 2.1L ralley motor makes 250 hp and uses stock throttle body.
EDIT:cone filter setup and you'll be set. ;)

Ok I'll just bore my engine out then. Wny didn't I think of that?

because that costs a LOT. ;)

I was being facetious. Poor orange doesn't look happy.

It doesn't make much of if any difference but every little helps too:)
If you want to get it done, any machine shop should be able to do it.
Its just a case of mounting the throttle body on a lathe and boring out by about 3mm
then making up a new butterfly to fit.
I've been getting one or two and an M20 one for a mate ready to work on in the next week or two.

To be honest, it seems very slow for what they cost and the power they are suppose to be producing.
Cone filters make no difference whatsover apart from more noise unless used with a decent heatshield too

i believe they help with throttle response, but its no 20hp increase like some companies claim.

The TB isn't the restriction point on these engines. Its already over sized as it is. Start with the 2" bottle neck at the intake muffler and work your way back.

Try flow testing your Air Intake (http://autospeed.com/cms/A_111109/article.html). It's something I'm curious to see the results of for the M42. But I think tjts1 is right - most of the restriction comes from there.

Apparently the throttle body from the M43 from an E36 fits on the M42. There about
6mm bigger than the stock one.
