whats a good upgrade/replacement clutch for a 318? my pedal is letting out high,so im asuming that the clutch is going. i figured while i have it on the rack to do the exhaust i migth as well do the clutch, bushings, short shift kit and suspension too.

i think ive decided on a centerforce dual friction kit.
-
sounds good to me... as long as its not standard... cant really go wrong unless u have major engine mods. button type clutch plates are usually good but for daily driving can get annoying in traffic. they dont last as long either
-
so ive been looking somemore and im stuck between a centerforce DF kit and a southbend TZ series or OFE series. choices choices. also can the stock dualmass fly be lightened any?
-
I am looking into http://www.specclutch.com . Centerforce has one for our cars but is more expensive than spec. I am gonna try for a stage 2. But my mechanic has told me that He has replaced a few Dual mass Fly's to the aluminum one's. He is strongly against it because the M42 is balanced to that heavier fly. The customers have been back with idling problems and such. I plan to upgrade my clutch but not the fly.
-
quinn,i totaly forgot about spec. ive got clutches from them before.
-
after further inquiry the southbend clutches are cheaper than spec's. im still on the fence. ive had good luck with centerforces in other cars ive owned.
-
if your going to replace you clutch you might as well upgrade to an m20 flywheel, from what i understand Spec makes a nice clutch kit, Centerforce makes awesome clutches but on all the e30 applications they do not have the weights because of bell housing clearance issues, also Ireland Engineering sells clutches mad to their specs by (i think) Sachs

Hey 3 series what is southbends email address? I have known about centerforce for many years but spec seamed like, for some reason, a better choice.

1991 e3 m42 , you have a lightweight flywheel and performance clutch on your car. Do you have any idling problems and is the throttle response seriously a lot faster?

quinn, ive used centerforce and spec in cars before. i personaly like centerforce products. but i think this time im gonna try a southbend package. id still like to know if its possiable to machine some weight of a stock dual mass flywheel. ive got access to machine shop and someone thats a damn good machinist
-
get rid of that heavy ass flywheel. i believe you get all the clutch parts for a 325i and a throwout bearing from a 320i. you will notice a big difference
someone please corect me if im wrong.

The car idles a little rougher than stock, but that could also be due to cams, cam timing, ecu tune and my urethane engine mounts. Throttle response is greatly improved over stock.
