Title: Power Steering Filter?

So probably like all of you my power steering reservior leaks or "sweats" as i like to call it. Well I was shopping around and found out that there is a filter in the reservior. I have changed the fluid and never the reservior. I know this probably has been brought up before in this forum. So my question is when is a good time to change the fluid and reservior? I plan to flush it this weekend. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hmmm...  can't the filter be pulled to be cleaned or if not pulled, can't the resevoir be pulled and then run some type of solvent or cleaner through it to clean out the filter?

I too also wondered why on nearly all BMW's with our style of PS resevoir, they always were "wet" w/ ps fluid covering the exterior & cap... (excluding hoses, because we all know the BMW PS hoses eventually leak....)...

No. The filter is in the bottom half of the reservior. So changing it is the only way. Honestly I didn't know until I was at a junkyard and saw a demolished e30 M42 with a busted up reservior and the partition that seperates the two. Then I contacted Bavarian Autosport about it and they said that there is a filter in the bottom half. I have drained and flushed fluid through the system many times. Not until recently, did I feel like changing it. For me its more like a guarentee.
