Hey guys....
Yeah its true... she's gone.
I was on break at work and it was a warm night out so I said to myself... Ill go take out my car!!! I took an off ramp beautifully and then went along the bridge over what we call RT.9 There is a corner there and anyone who knows it knows that it is a bitch. I took the corner at the sppedlimit and had a nice e46 325i next to me... Thats when it happened...
All I remember was a bang... A sickening sound that went straight to my stomach and my heart ached for I knew what was to happen next...
The car slid out on me. It felt like the handbrake was pulled and no one was letting go. My car, made a T shape with the car next to me and I was able to look straight into the window at the horrified look on the driver's face.
I saved it though!!! It held the line and then snapped back, while I myself knew I had to save it from spinning but sighed a mental sigh of relief in my brain.... Thats whn i saw the chainlink fence...
There is a tall curb, 6-9 in that lines both sides of the road and I figured, no problem, the front tires will hit and it will slow the car enough and I will just hit the fence. But I was completely wrong...
Anyone know how low our oilpans are on M42 engines????
Get where I am going?
The tires hit the curb with another sickening thud and was followed by the sound of tearing, crumpling, shattering metal... The oilpan caught and tore the bottom half of the engine out. You can actually see the crank and the bottom of the pistons...
It went straight through the fence and it tore up the hood real bad...
The front left fender hit a pole holding up the fence and shot it 50-75 feet into the parking lot in front of me.
It was running beautifully even though it hed dropped all of its oil on the ground and sprayed out in a fashion reminiscent of someone's head cracking on pavement, or a waterballoon hitting the ground at an angle....
Its gone... I stood there and cried, for I knew the car was gone....
I think the differential locked up or froze up because it now works fine....
...............
I'm still kinda at a loss for words... I'll definately have pics up because they are already on my computer...
There is some good coming out of this though...
My dad is going to help me put it back together, and it will have the X5 4.8si swap when finished... It is going to be a track car!!!! That made me so happy, although I will have to fund most of it, I am so happy and will lose it when it turns over again!!!
As of now I am looking for a new ride, and yes it will be European...
My best bet is an Audi A4 1.8T because they can be bought for around $5,000 and are fun to drive,
But nothing will replace the screaming of the M42 all the way up to redling with the screach of the rear tires after banging it into gear...
Like someone on this forum said a while back and has become my favorite e30 saying:
After 6500 rpm.... No one can hear you scream... >:)
I'll miss you baby, and you will always have a special place in my heart!!!
Thanks guys!!!
Here come the comments!!
-
My condolence to you. No one hurt i hope. Is the conversion going to take it from OBD1 to OBD2 ?.
-
I'm not too sure... I know that is what I would love to do to the car and I need to do a lot more research including becoming a member of a different site...
But no. I was not hurt... No one was... I'm very lucky although it happened at such a slow speed on a flat surface there was really no way for me to get hurt...
-
im sorry dude.
come to nc, i'll hook you up.
i know of a alpineweiss II 91 318i for sale. the guy will take 300$ if i gave him the cash. all it needs is a fuel tank and vaccum lines.
-
Audi 1.8Ts are NOT fun to drive. Redic slow. Pics of the damage?
-
is this your second M42 wrecked??

Yea,He will need an S4 for sure.

Will what's the story with this one? Is it a rust bucket?
-
Will what's the story with this one? Is it a rust bucket?
no actually.
it needs some work, but the guy bought it off of ebay and the po had messed up the vaccum lines, he couldn't figure them out, so he thinks something more is wrong with the car...but really, all it needs is to delete the mess under the intake. and fix some leaks. i just didn't tell him that, and he's in no hurry to sell it.
it's really a nice car for anyone that would want it, i just don't have the time or money to invest into it.
-
No this is the same car but I had put a new front end and valence and bumper on the car. I have a tough decision to make. Either work my ass off and make a ton of money, or... dare I say it.... sell it....
I can not afford an s4 and I just got 1900 in total after the deduct, was taken out. I have about 2000 right now to play with and if I sold the car, I would have around $4000...
What do you suggest.
My dad wants me in something more.... how do you say... safe....
Either all wheel drive(audi) or something with traction control. I fought with him and he knows it has to be all wheel drive because I will shut off the traction control.... I hate it....
What should I do guys...
-
You should not be a fucking dumbass.
Obviously your dad is justified in his thinking.
-
Really buddy?
Reeally?
You going to start calling names, real mature...
It;s not my fault what happened and if you dont have fun in one of these cars, get out and walk.
The diff went mid corner, I couldnt help that.
I need advice not attacking.
-
Well then you definitely shouldn't be searching for it on the internet.
-

now danny this isn't r3v....
but you do have a point.
and to birdman, buy a cheap junker, and sell your car.
drive the cheap ride untill you have enough $$$ to buy a eta or something, learn how to drive well in any condition with something that doesn't matter, then get a nice e30 ;)
-
An A4 sounds like a great solution, front wheel drive will better suit your driving style. There has to be more to the story between the part of "I took the corner at the speed limit" and "All of the sudden the car was sideways and torn in half". You were either driving too fast for the limits of the road or for your counter steering abilities.
Believe me, I'm 19 and I think I am Nico Rosberg as much as the next smuck. I just learned early enough to keep the play in places where there aren't huge things to hit or no shoulder to drop a tire onto. These cars aren't particularly hard to drive fast, but the grip limit goes fast and that 4.0 turns lock to lock doesn't help with quick counter steering. Sorry for busting your chops, but you have to learn somehow. As enthusiastic as you are, you should look into some HPDE's and go have a ball where there aren't fences or e46's flying at you from all directions. This of course will have to wait until your get yourself into another car. :)
-
auwtch man, that sucks. I feel for you

No, it was at the speed limit and the road is really tight. My countrysteering abilities are great. Trust me. I used to race when I was young. I knew my car very well and anyone could back that up. I did save the car because I didn't kill the guy next to me by countersteering. I'm gonna have to sell it but I'm still looking for rear or all wheel drive. Preferably rear.
And dude... Calm down...
-
Being at the speed limit doesn't mean you were at an appropriate speed for the conditions or your abilities.
Sorry for your loss.
Don't get an Audi, VAG products are for suckers.

Dry road, no sand, no bumps, just a corner taken at the speed limit which we all know is way lower than anytakes a corner or travels at. We got the diff checked out and it literally ripped itself apart internally... How the F$&$ does that happen????
I'm selling the car if anyone wants it and it is in great condition. The car has a small piece taken out of the first bolt in the block and otherwise I would be able to fix it and drive it. The car would need a new front right fender and a hood and everything else is fine.
Anyone have an idea what I should sell it for? I'll post pics in a few minutes so you know what the car looks like.
I'm currently looking at an Audi 1.8t Quattro because they drive decently and with the right set of tires and some turbo mods I can get this car to be fun. I'll lower it and add some nice wheels but nothing will replace the e30 I love!!!
-
Pictures of accident aftermath are now up in my album. Check it out and let me know. Cosmtically the car is perfect except for the hood and front fender. The valence is fine now because I pulled it out and straightened it up. Looks great. Car has barely any dings or scrapes except for the ones from the accident..
Let me know how much you think I should sell it for on eBay or on here. I was thinking of putting a reserve of 1750... let me know...
-
Did the diff shred and lockup or did your ass lose traction?
-
his ass lost traction.
these diff's are bullet proof, mine took 5k clutch dumps many, many times and it didnt explode for a long ass time.

You're 17... So you used to kart race?
Sucks about the car though. You should part out what you can from this one and just get another E30. If your dad wants safer, get an airbag car. As far as my advice, look into some driving instruction and spend the summer at every autocross you can find.

No the diff actually broke!!! When we got it checked out the second my mechanic checked it out, we could instantly see that it had failed and seized up. I have taken many driving courses and kick ass at control in many cars including many drifts, slides and such in my dad's 325i and my mom's e46 M3, all in safe controlled driving environments for skidding schools and training courses. I know how to throw around all of these cars especially mine and control them perfectly( I'm not talking about sand around a 10 mile per hour corner)and it truely was not driver error. There was no way of not hitting the curb because otherwise I would have killed the guy next to me since the road is so tight and there is no where to go...
The cop was proud of me because he has said that so many people who have tried speeding around the corner and not taking it at or below the speedlimit usually end up in the 10 foot dip to the right of the street or take out the whole fence. He was astonished by my sense of control and what minimal damage cosmetically happened to the car. The only reason it is totaled is because the car is lowered and caught the oil pan on a large curb.
I am currently looking for an engine in my area (Massachusetts) and really want to build the car back because all it needs to get back on the street is an engine (didn't break a light, or suspension part and the chasis is still square).
I'm thinking the best mod will be a new steering rack (e30 M3 is probs the best bet).
If anyone knows of an engine no farther than 300 miles from Massachusetts, please let me know.
-
why don't you just buy another 318?
or even a 325, it's all e30, its all good.

Your utter arrogance about the whole situation bugs me. It pays to be modest; you end up learning from your mistakes rather than being a know it all douche your whole life.
-
git em jimmy!
to birdman, are you saying your diffrential locked up? causing a e-brake like situation?
i tore out my small cased lsd out of my 318i and it didnt lock up like you say, it just made a huge clunking noise and lotsof vibrations, but i did it after a 2nd gear line lock, while sideways with rear tyres going 60 mph and it didnt act as you say.
no offence, but i think you came in a bit to hot into that corner, lost control, and you payed for it by going through a ditch. nothing wrong with that, except you trashed your car. just man up to your mistakes, buy another e30, and move on with your life. ;)

I have broken my share of diffs, ask Jimmy, but every time it happened, i could still drive it, listening to the story it sounds like someone was trying to show off

Chill out guys... This is the most attitude I have personally seen on the website. I dont think what Bridman has said was THAT braggish. There is some there, but I don't know where the line of defending himself against the original stab of Danny707 and just plain bragging is crossed. Birdman may be just trying to justify himself in the drifting abilities he has, trying to prove that it wasn't driver error. But those who haven't read enough, or read it in a different way than I have, think he is just bragging.
If I had to venture a guess, keep in mind I have never blown a differential, or drifted all that hard, I would say he took that corner around the edge of his abilities or so, and then the differential blew, and threw his control off, which resulted in him through a fence.
I don't care if you anyone listens to me, but if you think someone is bragging, what's wrong with simply asking them to tone it down a bit or something? There's no need to call that person a "fucking dumbass" Isn't Danny707 supposed to be older and more mature than Birdman? Exploding at the appearance of someone bragging is hardly mature... Just how I see it.
-
I'm 18.
Lawl.
So much more mature, at least when I wreck my car I'll take responsibility for what happened.
-
Peace out... I'm leaving this site... Too much like The others... It wasn't bragging and if you are going to attack me, get a life and go get laid.
Thanks for the good help but this has just gotten way out of hand!!!
Thanks to all who have helped me and continue to help!!
Peace out!

lulz, we didn't even give him that hard of a time
-
I was easy on you, shit.

No you were not hard at all... That's what she said.. But I'm sick of being attacked when I know what happened and no oneelse does. I was looking for advice but I got a pain in the ass...
Peace out
Final post.
