Title: Smog Check
Post by: eric16v on March 03, 2009, 04:24:20 PM
Hey guys today I took my car in to be smogged (im in Cali.) and my car failed. the PO said he had a new cat installed about two years ago and       19,xxx miles ago. It looks fairly new. I have a Mark d 91 oct. chip. Are these smog legal? heres my numbers

Hc     max 124  /  meas 227      15 mph
                98  /  meas 202      25 mph

No            815 /    2726           15mph
                754 /    2017          25mph

on the previous test when I bought the car the numbers were well within range. I warmed up the cat and the guy even tested it twice while letting it warm up some more.
any thoughts welcomed.
thanks in advance

Damn.

Check for vacuum leaks, looks like you might have a biggun.

Thanks, i replaced all the vacuum lines under the intake and icv about a year ago but i noticed that some are already looking a little cracked mainly the one on the ICV to the head. The cars RPMs dont seem to bounce around very much if at all. wouldnt this bad of a leak be noticeable?

Yeah I would think so, could also be a lazy O2 sensor though.

Swap the stock chip back in for the smog check. This engine routinely fails with aftermarket chips.
