is there a coolant drain plug on the block side of the engine? if so, where is it?? and if there is, how do you fill up the block after?

There is one near the back on the header side. I have read they are very difficult to remove. I didn't try, I've never really believed in the need to drain all the fluid.

Not hard to remove, at least in my experience.  Seems worth it to drain if you'll have the system open so you can do a full flush.  Its a 19mm (IIRC) below the exhaust manifold. And I think its torqued to 25Nm. And you just refill the same way as normal, through the radiator.
