Title: Problems with mustang injectors
Post by: longms on February 18, 2009, 10:38:26 AM
I had purchased the mustang injectors for our motor. Here is a little background first. The motor has been freshly rebuilt and the fuel pump has been replaced as it was frozen upon trying to initially fire up the car. The car fired up upon replacing the fuel pump and then immediately shut off. The car would not fire up after that with the mustang injectors installed. Then I started hearing a steady flow onto the ground from the fuel rail. Sure enough there was a problem with the injectors. The fuel was leaking out where the injectors install to the motor. The O-rings were replaced with the ones that came in the gasket rebuild kit but that didnt make a difference. I pulled those injectors and put stockers back in with new o-rings and car fires up fine and runs fine.

Did I miss something or forget something crucial with the mustang injectors?

Which mustang injectors are you using? Whats the part number on the side of the injector? Did you use the stock BMW clips or the washer method to install them?

do check the part # out, as they could be the wrong "Mustang" injectors, as there are quite a few variations of the 19lb Mustang injectors...

Also, are you sure the injector was 100% completely seated into the fuel rail and the intake?  If they were not completely seated or pressed into those ports, you would experience a leak immediately once the fuel pump primed or the fuel pressure began to build/flow...

Used injectors that have been sitting can get frozen up if they are not lubricated properly. On my Alfa, I took some good used injectors that had been sitting for  a year and they would not fire. They were stuck closed. Where did you get your Mustang injectors from? Did you send them out to be cleaned before using?

Not sure on the part # but I will check that out and get back to you. I used the stock clips and I am pretty sure that they were seated correctly.

I am thinking that they might be the wrong injectors. I will have to check and make sure.

What might the correct part number be???
